What is the point of this at a drive through? Why can't they give you a total right then from the order area?

sometimes your order comes to more than $10 so they need to use a co-worker's fingers to help them count that high.

They're not at the computer when you give them your order they're somewhere else in the restaurant with the headset on.

Well that makes sense. I kind of assumed that it was to see if I was paying with cash or a card. If it was cash they wouldn't put it in the register.

At least I know that no shady business is going on at Burger King 8)

Breesus is correct

As for not putting it in the register - That's why so many places have signs about getting your receipt. If you're not getting a receipt the cashier could be pocketing your cash. Those places want you getting a receipt and want to know about it if you're not

Don't ring up the order if it's a cash transaction=profit

Sometimes the person taking the order is not the same person inputting the order into the POS. I would guess that the person working the register is listening in to your conversation and keying in the order, therefore a total can not be presented to you in real time.
