Employee-owned New Belgium Brewing Company, which owns craft beer brand Fat Tire, is looking for a buyer that could the value the U.S. company at more than $1 billion (£671 million), according to people familiar with the matter.

If Ballast Point can sell for $1B, no reason why New Belgium can't.

I think they are high on that list every year. The handful of people that I know who work for them absolutely love it.

I'd love to go talk to a few employees at places like BP or goose island and see how much has changed or will change.

I find it hard to believe, given this from just a couple months ago:

quote:

In a time when so many breweries have either sold or are shopping for buyers, being in a position to feel comfortable with our ownership and know that it won’t change hands anytime soon is a luxury.

Both of these decisions came naturally thanks to our Company Core Values and Beliefs (which include, among other things, having fun). They've steered us well for the last 24 year, and we're excited to let them guide us for the next 24, too.

I hope so as well, but do you know what $1B can do to

I believe that $1B is a shite-ton of money, and I value money.

I'd be a little surprised if NB sells for as much as BP as I value BP's product and brand more. But stranger things have happened.

Wasn't there a thread like this on Lagunitas or did I dream that?

Which do you think sells more product? New Belgium is a much bigger name and is more widely distributed I would think.

True, but unlike Sculpin, Fat Tire doesn't sell for like 80 dollars a six pack.

People freak out over the price of a six pack but do not blink and eye at spending 10 bucks for a bomber.

New Belgium is the 4th largest craft brewery in the country and they are about to have their Asheville facility up and running.

Ballast Point is 31st largest. (Both based on 2014 numbers.)

I would think New Belgium would be worth significantly more than Ballast Point as far as the company is concerned. It's a bigger brewery and bigger brand.

I doubt investors are willing to pay for rare.
