Perkins by where? I though there was a law that mandated them notifying the public 24 hours before?

They get around the "check point" thing by just doing what they call Targeted Patrols (at least that is what they call it in other areas, not sure about here). It isn't a "checkpoint" per se but they put ten or fifteen police on motors and cars in a two block area and stop pretty much everything that moves. Amazingly, these two block areas tend to be near bars. Like around Acadian and Perkins as they did the other night.

So basically they're targeting Uncle Earls and The Bulldog? It's bizarre that I've never seen one on Jefferson, Essen, or Bluebonnet. They seem to navigate towards Perkins and Acadian.

They target the Bulldog because it's white males between 25 and 40. They are the best people to arrest.

They don't bother with women and minorities if they can avoid it

Why'd you pick 25-40? Why can't they be over 40? Also, I see a good amount of females in the newspaper for DUI on a regular basis.

Less problems with them. They dont give cops problems, they go to court, and pay their fines and it's done. Easy money for the court

Drunk women are a hassle to arrest, minorities don't go to court, etc.

Now don't get me wrong, these are broad strokes but these are words straight from a bail bondsman and some cops.

White guys 25-40 are the go to people to get

Not a restaurant but Twine butcher shop was supposed to take over the old Unique Cuisine.

Maybe the FB link says something new, not on it so I can't see it

When John Folse closed Bittersweet back in the day, he said it was because he was moving to Baton Rouge.

I must be misremembering. I would have bet money that Camellia grill opened up at the Mall of Louisiana for a while. In a space that opened up to the outside, maybe right by where the promenade section is now.

They were having issues with getting enough parking. They tried to lease a portion of land from Bocage Racquet Club but I think the Bocage subdivision had something to say about that. Regardless, the lease option with bocage has expired. They must have solved the issues though because I think they are getting ready to start construction. He is also opening a restaurant directly across the street, Palermo Ristorante.

Yes

Why is there a huge for sale sign up in front of the massive lot where drago's is supposed to go?

Also, what about juban's bistro on side of Alexander's market

Guess we can add Alamo Drafthouse to this list.

quote:

Plans for an Alamo Drafthouse movie theater at Rouzan have fallen through.

Two sources close to the situation have confirmed that the lease between the Beaumont, Texas-based franchisee group planning to develop the theater, Cojeaux Cinemas, and Rouzan developer Tommy Spinosa has ended. It’s unclear whether the lease, which was signed in the fall of 2014, has expired or was terminated for other reasons.

Spinosa did not return a call for comment by this morning’s deadline, nor were calls to Cojeaux Cinema or Alamo Drafhouse’s corporate offices returned.

Planning Director Frank Duke says he was aware of a clause in the lease that gave Cojeaux Cinemas an out in the event Spinosa did not break ground on the project by a certain date. Duke does not know what that date was, nor was he aware this morning that the lease has been terminated.

The theater was to have been the anchor tenant in the planned Rouzan Village Center, a more than 200,000-square-foot, mixed-use complex of apartments, shops and restaurants with a parking garage.

Spinosa first announced in November 2014 that he had inked a deal with the popular Austin-based movie theater chain, which serves food, craft beers, wine and cocktails in intimate, cabaret-style movie theaters. At the time, Cojeaux Cinemas President Anthony Coco said Rouzan was the ideal location for Louisiana’s first Alamo Drafthouse, which was to have seven screens and 900 seats.

It is unclear exactly why construction on the Village Center has dragged on for so many months. Last May, the city parish issued a commercial construction permit for more than 220,000 square feet of commercial space to Spinosa’s contractor Glen Jarrell, and a giant crane began working on the site. Work soon terminated, however, and nothing appears to have been done in months.

Part of the hold up may be connected to recent efforts to change the width of the setback along the stretch of Perkins Road that runs in front of Rouzan. The Metro Council Wednesday night approved the change, which will enable Spinosa to develop his commercial buildings closer to Perkins Road than originally planned.

I haven't been impressed with any of his restaurants. Overpriced and underwhelming. I swear I got a lobster pasta at The Little Village one time, priced over $25 and in a 6oz serving bowl. You know, the kinda bowls made for restaurants, with the false bottom that makes it look much deeper than it really is. I wish I had a picture of it, it was almost comical.

One example of course...
