Yea, Monroe one does surprisingly well. It's not all blue hairs either. Prolly a 70/30 blue to normal hair ratio.

In 2010 i used to go to the one on Clearview once a week. They had a 4.99 special on wednesday. Chuck wagon stew.( pretty good ) two sides ( i would get green beans and mash potatoes and gravy ) and a type of bread. I would get it to-go and they hooked the to-go orders up fat. Great deal.

Used to love it when I was a kid. I have not been there is the mid-90s, and it was a shell of its former self then.

One thing I never understood was what they called gumbo which was at the beginning of the line. It was a soup (no roux) with big hunks of fish, carrots and other crap. How this becomes a gumbo was always a mystery to me?

Which one? And when? I can remember getting the gumbo ages ago, and it seemed OK. Certainly did not have carrots in it. Maybe I'm just projecting good memories of going there onto the food.

I used to go there for a quick lunch in the 80s. Stopped in the 90s when I opted for Asian buffets. I bet the increase of Chinese Buffets cut into their market a lot.

This is the one I grew up going to. We lived in Calhoun and every time we went "to town" we always ate lunch at the Piccadilly.

Not a fan of buffet food, but I love Piccadilly's carrot souffle.

They're going to have to redo their company image from the old people's/nursing home hangout spot to attract younger customers in order to sustain business.

Piccadilly's carrot souffle.
Between the OT and the F&DB, you are the 4th or 5th person to say this today. I've never had it, what is this carrot stuff made of, crack?

It is sooo good and I didn't even like cooked carrots before I tried it.
The etouffee is great too.

Same here. We ate there most Sunday after church. We rotated between there an the western sizzlin, back when it was good.

There weren't lots of choices back then.

There is no Picadilly heiress. It's owned by an investment firm out of California.

The Hamilton family started and owned it but sold it many years ago. I grew up with those girls and Suzanne, who was a year younger died several years ago. If your friend is married to one of the surviving girls they cashed out years ago.

after katrina i was visting my GF at the time who was with her family staying at a friends house in BR.. big nice house, well anyway, they invite me to dinner, so i accept and ask where we are going, they said Piccadilly, i made a face, a "that place blows" face. my gf nudged me and gave me a dirty look. their host looked at me and said "I own all the Piccadillies in south Louisiana"

My Gf and her family moved out the next day.

ETA: he was OT baller status for sure... hope he cashed out before they declared, because he was a nice guy

Piccadilly is one of the biggest companies headquartered in Baton Rouge. Big loss for the city.

No one in Louisiana after Katrina owned Piccadilly cafeterias. It was bought out of a 2003 bankruptcy by a California investment group.

The worst thing Piccadilly ever did was buy Ralph and Kacoos for $38 million in the late 80's. The Olindes could not have gotten more money with a gun and a mask. It was the deathnail for them. They were going to partner with Associated Grocers to open all the Piccadilly Express in the AG grocery stores.

I was there on Sunday. Pretty sure I was the only person under 60 or 300lbs. I destroyed some chicken fried steak though.

I go often! At least once a month. I probably went twice a week during the last pregnancy. It's my mil favorite place. And she always gets the "gumbo" and carrot souffle.

I'm a big fan of the roast beast and the catfish and baked fish. And I like to get a piece of pie, even though I only eat the crust.
