The Pelican House has apparently ditched the bar scene and moved to a family restaurant. Will you visit this establishment now? Does it change your perception?

I'm curious how this will change the dynamics. Will it still be a beer bar or are they shooting for a Chime type clientele

The place never sat right with me.
I just treat it as a middle of the road bar where it can be fun if you are with fun people.
Or it can be easily forgettable.

Depends on if the service is still shitty or not. But I have my doubts that going from a place where I couldn't get them to fill a drink order to a place where I want drinks and food is going to help.

Well the ol boy who is the chef there now apparently won on chopped? We go from time to time, but may have to go to try the food now.
To be fair the thread said pelican house and a joint in Covington. So, he may just have worked a new menu or something. Maybe he does double duty?

Yes. I usually go there when someone has an after work function or wants to grab drinks there. I never suggest it. Now that food will be improved (hopefully), I'll definitely take the family.

And that's their fault?

Say what you want about the service and lack of a decent bar, but the food there in the last year has always been really good. They are constantly adding and subtracting items so that the menu isn't always the same.

They have one of the more underrated brunches in Baton Rouge.

I am a little biased because I used to go there alot and have made friends with plenty of the staff, but I've always been critical about the effort those guys are actually putting into the bar. The last few months have been plenty of changes there, to the staff and how things are run. They seem 100 % committed to bringing a nice restaurant to BR. I'll check out the new menu soon, I haven't been in a while.

It's not their fault he left them but it sucks that odds are in favor of them being jacked by an employee.

If they have cameras in the place, I would have asked to go look at the tape

More than a random stranger swiping them? Like none of us have found money or shite on the ground and just taken it before. Not saying they didnt do it, but why do we always assume the workers at a business steal them?

Finding $5 on the ground is a little different than taking a pair of sunglasses off of a table in a restaurant that aren't yours

I wouldn't call a place that you have to ask for 6 different beers listed on the menu before they actually have one a beer bar. That may have been their goal, but the execution was terrible.

We had similar trouble in ordering several different beers that were listed on the menu but none were available. I ordered a magic hat and the waitress replied "anything else instead because the keg is always empty"

This is the truest review of the place I've ever read.

Regarding the kids welcome, that's only until 8 or 9 pm I believe. It's not all night.

Food is improved, although they are putting collard greens in the gumbo.

I wonder if it's still deafening in there. There could be only a couple of groups talking at normal volume and the place sounded like it was packed to the rafters. Acoustics were and probably still are bad. You used to have to yell over the music constantly as well. Hopefully they've changed that.
