Totally agree. If he had trouble selling his beer in Louisiana, he could easily expand into one or two TX markets.

I think your comparison to Trillium is good. Some brewers are just better, and people in other states are seeking them out. You don't see people on this board seeking out Harpoon. They want Trillium/Tree House, because it's better. Parish is Trillium. Tin Roof is Harpoon. Not necessarily bad, but not good enough to pay to have it shipped out of state.

Yes but people would not be shitlording cases if they reached a distribution point where they knew they could always find it on the shelf at their local grocer

But if the beers is good enough it still wont sit on the shelfs long and it still would get traded all over the country, but i see your point.

I do to, to a point. However, if i was cautious, which i am, i'd put larger expansion plans on hold for a little while, and wait for everything to shake out post the August expansion.

We see a similar trend happening every summer with the 3-Way release. The first batch comes out and flies off the shelves, because everybody wants it and knows that it will be a couple of weeks before Fort George can ship any more out. Then the second batch hits the shelves and it doesn't sell out quite as quickly, because the novelty is gone. By the third or fourth batch, it's pretty much readily available all the time after that, The same amount of beer is sold, but it doesn't all get sold in 2 days. It takes a week or week and a half to sell.

probably true because in LA, the supply of local beer is still way below the demand.

Is it ?

I know it's not exactly the same but the second shipment of the latest DDH Envie hung around longer than the first. I stop to buy some BB18 yesterday and the person at the store asked why I wasn't buying DDH Envie. They said it wasn't selling as fast as the first shipment.

Of course I bought all the remaining cases once I found out they had it.

I understand. It's the same thing in a condensed timeline. Until the brewer produces enough beer to meet the demand, the customers will over-buy, for fear that if they don't buy today, they will not be able to get any more for a while. Once the brewer ramps up, those fears are allayed, people will go into normal buying patterns and the shitlords will disappear.

With Parish, there is no equilibrium, yet. People know that it will be a while before Parish brews another batch of GitM, so they snap up as much as they can to ride out the dry times. If they are putting out a new batch every week, then people will stop worrying.

Of course, this was before you switched to Miller Lite, right?

It's because it's not as good as the first. People are willing to pay $15/ 4 pack if it's good. If it's not they'll grab regular Envie or Jucifer.

Mosaic is just not everyone's cup of tea. I'm ok with it but I'm not going out of my way for it.

I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a hype vs results beer arriving as Bell's. I know our Dear Leader whom we love and lay palms and incense at his feet loves him some Two Hearted, but I just can't get into it.

Honest question, but do you think basing an expansion on essentially one style of beer is the right thing? Demand is there now, but we know how fickle us beer nerds are. We'll move on to the next best thing and brewers have to be able to quickly pivot while having contracts for materials that reach out for several years. Truthfully, Parish doesn't seem to me to be a brewery that would be good at pivoting. They lucked out hitting the Louisiana market at the right time with their hoppy stuff. The South has always lagged behind, but we've caught up to the rest of the beer world, and winds can change quickly in that landscape.

Yep. I still buy it and enjoy it when it is fresh. I am not seeing it fresh though.

I see this point, but he has already stated he cant keep up with canebrake, had stated in that country roads article that he wants to make a cheap popular lager and he only distributes to one state.

I mean, its not money, so im all for expansion.

My biggest fear with expansion would be rescaling the recipes.

True. I forget Canebrake is such a big seller. I don't enjoy it and don't ever see many people drinking it when I'm down there, but it apparently sells way more than I'd believe.

Another four years of recipe tweaks.
