I feel like a million bucks, down 10lbs in two weeks. (Zero exercise for now)

I've been eating mostly "superfoods". People say this diet is expensive, but after you cut out all the fast foods, soft drinks, etc, it's no more expensive.

I am not doing any type of fad shakes or anything, just eating smart, 5 times a day.

Egg white omelet with a little cheese for breakfast.
1 cup of low fat chicken salad with whole wheat crackers for lunch.
Beans/brown rice, Salmon, or chicken breast with steamed veggies for dinner.

Snacks are almonds, grapefruit, asparagus, plums, blueberries, Greek yogurt, nutra-grain bar, cheese, and avacado.

I'll eat 2-3 snacks a day.

Actually tonight, I have shrimp tacos for dinner.

All the while, I go everywhere with a full Yeti cup (I know, trashy) of ice water.

**** Update 4/26 ****

I did lab work yesterday and got results today...

Weight down 14 pounds in 5 weeks

BP down from 137/85 to 110/80

Blood sugar down 15 points

Cholesterol down 75 pts

HDL's up 10 pts

LDL's down (forget #)

All this from simply eating smart. I have not started exercising yet. I am not on a diet, I simply changed my diet.

I am not sure if doctor was simply trying to encourage me or if he was serious, but he said he has never seen numbers change like this in one month without meds and/or exercise.

***Update 5/22***

It's been over two months now, still just eating superfoods mostly, no soft drinks, drinking about 150 oz of water a day, and still not exercising yet. Going on vacation for next two weeks and then will start my exercising.

I am down 24 pounds by just eating healthy 5 times a day. I eat a lot of almonds, avocados, bananas, fruit smoothies (I bought a bullet), kale, chicken breast, Greek yogurt, sweet potatoes, egg whites, granola on my yogurt, salads, & salmon.

I still haven't had fast food other than Cane's one time.

Good for you

You should start lifting weights to go along with your diet. You will feel even better.

How long did it take for you to start feeling more energy? I need to do something drastic but I'm addicted to carbs and drink way too many soft drinks.

After a couple days, when you get all the bad shite (literally) out of you, it hits you like a train.

Someone suggested doing a purge for two days, but I did t do it.

Just out of curiosity, what's size were you when you started?

I'm not a big guy at all (6 feet and around 155-160 lbs), but have put on a little weight in my midsection for the first time in my life. I go to the gym about 3-4 times a week just to do light cardio/weight lifting. I was considering doing this exact same thing over the summer to see how big of a difference it could make in the way I look and feel.

You need weight training, not cardio. 6ft, 155 is a little lite, imo. you need muscle.

I do both. I have a VERY thin frame. I was 6 ft 125 lbs (not an exaggeration) when I graduated high school 7 years ago for reference. If I worked out all the time (unless I just went straight up power lifter mode, which is never going to happen) I'd probably have the body type of Kevin Durant.

ETA: I'm mostly just concerned with the difference it can make in how you feel. I rely on caffeine a lot and was wondering if dieting this way can have a dramatic increase in "energy".

Awesome job but throw these out. You may as well be eating a snickers.

I like to eat natures valley bars, but I'm sure they aren't the healthiest either. Is there a specific alternative to this or would something like plain almonds just be the best thing?

I am big, 50-60lbs over weight. Six feet tall, 245lbs. (Was 255lbs).

Here is my dinner. My eyes were bigger than my stomach, I could only eat two.

Worst thing on these tacos are the tortillas.

Almonds would be ideal. Those nature valley and other "healthy" bars are loaded with sugar. Some have half your daily amount in one bar.

As BR stated, quest bars are a good alternative. They are more like a protein bar but really taste good.

At the very least, switch to corn over flour tortillas.

Also, ditch the cheese.

Great job, Antique!

It really is amazing how quickly you start to feel better. I'm a big guy (read: fat). I am 6'1" and I weighed around 280. I started doing intermittent fasting at the beginning of lent. I do the 8 : 16 fast. Cut out fast foods and sodas like you said, and started eating healthier. I'm down 26 pounds and feel so much better.

Also, in the last 2 weeks I started working out some. Four times a week I'm either on a rowing machine or doing kettlebell exercises.

I've made that change recently.

Can also go with corn tortillas.
