well, after my experience at bennigan's last week, i didn't learn my lesson and continued my tour of fading chain restaurants ... hit outback last night with a friend and to say i was disappointed would be an understatement ... this location isn't too far from where i live, but i haven't been in almost a year and a half ... among the changes .. i noticed they are using what looked like 28 count shrimp (pretty small) for their grilled shrimp on the barbie as opposed to the huge ones they used to use ... the quality of meat for my new york strip was not good at all and was overcooked .. i have to say that the service was pretty damn good and the meal wasn't wait person's fault ... this place has gone down badly .. i'm thinking the economy has them going to cheaper, smaller foods .. there was a good crowd there as there usually is ... definitely not something to go out of your way to eat at ...

ETA: i have been to the acadian thruway location in the last year and just don't remember the food quality being this bad ..

I am sorry to hear that. Outback generally has very exacting standards that they have to comply with. They have a people in the region that just travel from store to store making sure that everything is right in the kitchen and on the service end. I will forward this to my friends at outback.

then their distributor fricked them because the shrimp were definitely smaller .. the meat was almost as tough as a sirloin ..

Where does a place like that purchase something like shrimp? National distributors, frozen imports?

It's pretty easy to find 10-12 count fresh La. shrimp, for rather ridiculously cheap prices most of the time.

i really didn't start going there until a couple of years ago, and i've always thought them to be a little overpriced for the quality that you get...they also have a lot of really strange looking people working there.

yeah .. what i paid has a lot to do with my dissatisfaction ... i would have basically paid that much to eat a new york strip, salad, etc. at sullivan's ... just disappointed in the quality of the meat i got .. i could have gotten the same cut of meat from the albertson's meat department ..

Outback is charging 50 dollars a meal now??

I thought they were more in the 18-24 range for a complete meal. Texas Roadhouse is a much better option in that category.

Of course Outback sadly offers better service than Sullivans though..

I have never liked the steaks at Outback. When I go there, I usually get chicken or fish.

Excuse me? When do I bitch and moan about the chain restaurants??? I believe I was the one saying I welcomed high end chains.. Now I havent been to an Outback in over 2 years and havent been to a Texas Road house in months but they do produce a decent meal. Would I choose them for a special occasion NO.. Im dining at Commanders Palace this Saturday for that. For steak there are not many choices that are not chains unless you want to pay alot for a non prime steak. I generally cook steaks at home and have a better meal for less and save the money for a nice creole or seafood restaurant. Whats amazing is that you post that about me and have no fricking clue what you are talking about.

outbacks prices are a direct correlation to their food quality

they make all of their salad dressings, their chocolate sauce, their butter etc

I have been to 4 OUTBACKS, once each.

1. Jones Creek
2. Houston, Tx
3. Jacksonville, NC
4. Los Angeles, Cali

I was disapointed each time. I am not a chain-hater like so many posters on this board, but Outback officially became one of those chains that does not do it for me.

My list of terrible chain "restraunts"(not fast food--that is another story)that I do not care to go to again...

The place bites. I had the pleasure of going there several months ago and won't return.

I get dragged there to eat their subpar wings about once or twice a year(friends)...the view is the only worthwhile aspect.
