Also is there any particular spot to go for beignets or will any decent restaurant have a good version?

Making an Easter brunch reservation at this late date could be difficult, but you could try Arnaud's if you're other options are full. It's usually packed, though. I've had Easter brunch there a number of times. It's fun and festive and the parade passes right by there. It might be too late for brunchtime reservation, but as Blackened Out suggested, you could eat mid afternoon, probably with no problem at several places.

Slightly off-topic for food discussion but are there any good nature hikes fairly close to town? We were considering doing a canoe tour of the Manchac Swamp but wasn't sure if anything would be better.

You said earlier you were looking for the full southern experience.

Will take 3/4 of a day, but you could drive out I-10 west to 641 to LA-18 (or US-90 to LA-18) and tour Oak Alley - site of numerous movie shots

Folks don't live that way so much anymore. We did for a while in Alabama, then sold out and Moved to Meridian. The old houses are special. New house is a lot warmer in winter. Not nearly as pretty.

There are other Antebellum homes out there. Google map it.

You could go out to City Park and enjoy a walk around there and eat beignets at Morning Call there. Could take street car from Canal St
