I do them whole. I don’t want them to fall apart. They can help season and I like to eat or cook with them.

Some onions whole and some onions cut in half. You got the best of both worlds. Same with heads of garlic.

Cut in half, leaving the root and top in tact. They stay together just fine that way.

I usually cut the top off and leave the root attached, but I doubt it makes much difference

I’ve never really thought about it. Onions are cheap. And you’re boiling them with crustaceans as well as other vegetables. Very little risk and almost no one will give a single frick

Cut in half to expose more of the inner part of the onion for more flavor release.

Onions cut in half, celery cut in fairly large pieces, lemons cut in half and squeezed as they go in the water, garlic heads with just a tiny bit of the top cut to slightly expose the cloves, whole bay leaves.

I’m 40 and had no idea there were people who put whole, uncut onions in a crawfish boil. I’ve never seen that once.

I do this but just in 1/4th some pieces fall off but most stays together if you don't cut too deep.

I do it cause the onion tastes good to eat.

I cut mine in 1/2 though.

Half or quartered, with root in tact so they stay together.

If we have my preferred smaller onions, then whole. And we always have my preferred smaller onions.
