Going to NYC next month and wanted to try an omakase sushi restaurant. Has anyone tried any of the following?
Have searched but didn't really find any info.
Ichimura at Brushstroke
Nakazawa
Yasuda
Sasabune
Masa
TIA

Yasuda in July. Was impressed.

15 east seated with Masa was fantastic and my favorite sushi experience of all time. Best rice, cuts, variety, and overall experience for me.
Ichimura was also very good and probably second for me, but not quite at 15East. Nakazawa came in third very close to Ichimura. Ichimura has some stronger flavors, so if that is your thing I would pick it over Nakazawa.
I have not been to Masa, but the value is better at the other options. Yasuda seems to be hit or miss with many people.
ETA: Just read that Masa left 15 East in July to move to Bangkok. I cannot vouch for 15 East when not eating with Masa, so I would rank Ichimura then Nakazawa. Saddened by this delayed news.

Just wanted to post a follow up and say "Thank you" for the recommendation of Ichimura. It was the best sushi that I have ever had. The night we went, there were only 7 diners. Watching Eiji Ichimura work was a highlight of the meal. I can't remember what every course was but I know we had chutoro, hirame, anago, uni, kazunoko, kohada, mirugai, saba and truffle chawanmushi. There were more less esoterical offerings but I had some difficulty understanding Mr. Ichimura. He was very gracious and unpretentious and really added to the whole experience. My pocketbook is still reeling but it's not something you would do every day, more of a bucket list item to check off.
I found this vimeo video of him preparing his sushi and it gives a pretty good representation of the experience.
Chef Eiji Ichimura at Brushstroke
We also had omakase at a small restaurant called KanoYama in East Village. Very fresh sushi at a reasonable price but not on the same level as Ichimura. Their yellow tail collar (hamachikama) was one of the best that I have had.
Kano Yama
Thank you again, NOFOX for steering me in the right direction.

How much was it? I've got some places near me in Brooklyn that hover around $50 and they are killer.

Glad you had a great time. Spectacular food and awesome experience watching chef do his thing. I am jealous. Haven't had top tier sushi in a while. Need to plan an NYC or LA trip soon.

At Ichimura, it was $480.00 for two with tip and sake. Even though that's as high as a giraffe's quim, it is not the most expensive in NYC.
