So spent the week in NYC and tried to eat out of the touristy areas. Ended up in Greenwich village for most of our meals. Rahi is an Indian Restaurant that had a lot of modern style dishes with classic flavors. I had a butter poached lobster tail on top of some type of spicy semolina cakes. It was great. The wife (no pics) had a chicken dish stuffed with a spiced rice which was very good as well. We stumbled on Uncle Ted's Chinese. While it doesn't sound very Chinese, it was fresh and quite a few steps up from your favorite hole in the wall wok shop. Finally some other notables were Tacombi (Mexican), Emporio (Pizza), Tartinery (French), and of course, John's Pizza in Time Square. I will try to add some pics in a bit.
ETA: There was a crazy good Thai place in the Chelsea Market called Chelsea Thai. The whole market had a ton of great food including a raw oyster bar with oysters from up and down the east coast.

Sounds like The Lobster Place. The sushi bar & raw oyster bar were very memorable.
