The Joint is 11+ years and going strong. I'll be there today for lunch. McClure's seems to have it nailed. BBQ talent < good business sense. Lots of businesses are tough

Don't wish a family illness upon anyone. Hopefully they get through that.

When they do, hopefully he can open up under the same name with an investor that can back a larger quantity and a PR person that will keep all social media activity strictly to the food.

I wonder if the high end ingredients took their toll. I know there were lots of specialty items that were outside of a typical bbq spot.

Yeah, the board caused a family illness...

There were still lines in the morning to eat there according to Chef Rob.

If so successful, why not sell the joint? Why just close it down?

what is there to sell? His product is all consuming and it is pretty much a 1 man shop.

A brand
A following (existing customers = existing sales)
A proven BBQ technique.
11 years of success.

The board didn't even cause a loss of business really, everyone loved his food. The guy was just a troll and took a lot of heat for his posts. Hope he gets through his family illness.

Am I confused? The Joint that was referenced is another business. It has nothing to do with NOLA Smokehouse

You are confused.

The Joint is a different place, the best BBQ in NOLA.

what brand? a place in business for a year is not a brand.
if the sales were strong enough to merit a sale then he wouldn't be in this spot.
A technique that he has been unable to train anyone else to execute in the last year and at prior ventures.

you are mistaken about the 11 years of success.

also, you know that a sale almost always requires the new ownership to assume debt or payoff existing debt to operate the business day one.

But...but...they sell out every day...

ETA: What makes zero sense: family illness where you will need income, so you quit your job??

ETA 2: Karma is a bitch. Rob mocked another Que place when they were robbed. Not going to be crying any big tears for this dude.

Lets get clarity here:

"The Joint" (proper noun) is a BBQ place in the Bywater. It has been open since at least 2004. It serves consistently the best BBQ in the city, it is owned by two wonderful, kind people and the run a solid business.

When I referenced the joint, that's what I was referring to.

I was not referring to that joint - NOLA Smokehouse - that's closing down on 10/03 and has been open for just over a year, or so.
