Food & Drink,

My wife has finally cracked me and I am going on a no carb diet. What are some food suggestions for B L and D while I attempt this horrific act? To rub it in, she took me to a nice italian place and I had a salad..

You can make lettuce wraps. You can make them with fish, chicken, shrimp or beef. The classic meat and veggies is a good meal as well. I lost over 30lbs doing it so it definitely works.

Did you continue the diet after losing the lbs?

Also, is it true fat meats are fair game? Bought some bacon to celebrate

I did a no carb diet, lost a good bit of weight. Then I gained most of it back. Good luck!

I usually drank protein shakes for breakfast.

I ate more chicken and broccoli than I ever wanted to.

I did make some delicious turkey meatballs a few times.

Thats what I am worried about. I lost 40lbs in college eating just subway twice a day and exercising everyday but work has taken its toll.

You can eat really well doing this.

Bacon/sausage and eggs for breakfast.

Turkey, ham, and other meats like salami/pepperoni are great to keep on hand to snack on. Snack on cheeses and nuts as well.

Eat steak, chicken, fish as often as you want with veggies as a side.

You need something healthier than just "no carb" Get over to the Health and Fitness Board on Beta.

Also, man up a little and don't let your wife dictate everything that you do. It sounds like she is shite testing you, and you failed.

If you're just trying to lose weight, look into Intermittent Fasting. I find it to be much easier, personally, than food type restriction diets (though I'll occasionally ad in a Keto period to my IF on occasion).

If you go Keto, prepare yourself for the keto flu on about day 4.

Eat Stop Eat by Brad Pilon is a pretty good manual on it.

I have fallen off the wagon, but I will be starting it back up next Monday. You can actually make some delicious meals and that don't have many carbs in them. I also walk alot too. I try to walk 7-8 miles per day.

Go to Costco and load up on bacon, eggs, chicken, steaks, etc... Be careful with veggies. I stick with broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, greens, and cabbage.

Change of lifestyle is the answer.

I assume you mean "low carb" and not "no carb". There are people out there that try to go for zero card diets, but <30g net carbs per day should be low enough to get one into ketosis.

I have lots of info on ketogenic/very low carb diets in the puttafork sticky. Also, check out the new health/fitness board

As someone who eats out all the time, I am convinced that my Paleo diet is successful not so much because of the food choices but because I can hardly find anything that fits in the diet. Thus, I have been eating a ton less. I firmly believe that QUANTITY and not what you eat is the deciding factor.

But I am honest enough to know that if you put a giant bowl of pasta in front of me, I am going to eat the whole thing. Not so much with a ginormous salad.

No carb isn't wise, but you can stay under 20g net while losing weight and then slowly add in GOOD carbs until you are stable at desired weight. You'll want your carbs to be in fiber form unless you like shitting antlers only once a week. Speaking of which go easy on the cheese too.

Drink LOTS of water!

My go to low carb meals:
Breakfast: eggs, sausage, bacon, omelettes with cheese/jalapeno's etc. No real problems here.
Lunch: Salad with whatever meat is left over from dinner the night before. Careful with what veggies you add and what salad dressing you use. If you go out then maybe hot wings.
Dinner: side salad or cauliflower/broccoli, MEAT. I cook a lot more dinners when I'm on low carb, so I grill salmon on cedar planks , grilled leg quarters, steaks, smoke a pork butt, burgers but skip the buns. I do jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon on the grill for tailgating too.

Daytime snacks: olives, pieces of cheese, pepperoni, beef jerky, handful of nuts, dill pickles, jalapeños.

Eating out: Hot wings if they aren't breaded are like the ultimate low carb meal. Also generally charcuterie platters are fine as long as you don't eat the bread. Fried chicken but take off the skin.

Pretty much you only shop from the outside of the grocery store and skip all the middle aisles on such a diet.

There are groups out there that are successfully eating close to zero carbs. Fatty meats provide everything you need to survive without one vegetable - that is a fact and has already been proven by science. The reason people gain the weight back? They start eating foods they really shouldn't be eating.

Fiber is extremely overrated as well. Why would I want to consume insoluble fiber - something I physically cannot digest...absolute madness.

OP - fresh fatty meats never hurt anyone. ALL scientific studies about meat = cancer is association only and no direct link can be found.

I've been doing 20g of carbs a day for 9 weeks. Lost 26 pounds so far. The problem is if you stop. I wanted to eat some damn bread yesterday for Father's Day. So no breakfast, no dinner, just lunch. Split an order of corn nuggets and had a roast beef poboy, no fries. Woke up this morning and gained 2.6 pounds. I'll knock it back off, but it's frustrating to have ONE DAMN MEAL and gain weight.
