In the market for a new grill/smoker.

I am cheap, would like to stay under $500

I have seen and am interested in a pellet grill (GMG most likely), WSM, or some type of kamado.

My question is if i mainly do burgers, steaks, and chicken which should i go for?

I want to get into low and slow more with some pork and brisket but i will mostly likely mainly be doing burgers, steaks and chickens and a pizza everyone once in a while

I have 2 old grills already, a propane and an Old smokey charcoal grill

Thanks for any recommendations!

I don't have a pellet smoker but the little bit I do know, most pellet smokers, while they are great for ribs, chicken brisket, etc. they don't do a very good job on steaks or burgers unless you pay a lot more than $500.

Weber smokey Mountain and a Weber kettle grill. You can get the large versions of both for under $500

Get a 22.5" Weber Kettle and a a Pit Barrel Cooker for smoking. You can get big for $450 and they're both incredibly easy to use and produce great results. If you want amazing pizza, get the Kettle Pizza add on for the Weber for another $150 or so.

In that price range get the Chargriller Akorn. Great introduction to kamado type smoking for $350 or less. You can move up to BGE later, though I have been content with my Akorn.

Go with an Akorn or something similar. In my experience, pellet grills don't get hot enough to sear steaks. Akorn will get you familiar with the smoking process while still being able to ramp up to searing temps easily.

Went from an Akorn to a Yoder. Now if I want a steak or something I just sear it on a cast iron pan.

I like my Char Griller. It's barrel shaped and has a firebox on the side. You can BBQ on it or put some wood in the firebox and smoke with it. I think it cost under $200 at Home Depot and I've had it for 5 years. It's also easy to get the ashes out and you can adjust the coals up or down when doing the BBQ thing which is nice if you want to sear a steak off quickly.

I have the opportunity of obtaining a Louisiana Grills pellet grill in my price range. Found a guy selling his for $100. There is a problem with the auger. Should be fixable.

With this "deal" do yall still think Akorn?

I'm not extremely familiar with LG products. Thanks

Honestly I'd start with a 22.5" Weber Kettle and get the Slow N' Sear for it. If that doesn't fit your needs, you can get the Smoke EZ. I have a really nice kamado and a Weber Kettle and if I'm staying within your budget, there's no question I'm going with the Kettle and getting accessories as needed.

Honestly, i think it depends on what you want out of the grill. Do you want something that will be more versatile and will allow you to cook anything you want. or do you want to focus just on smoking. The akorn can go from 200-750 degrees F, but you have to watch the thermometer. A pellet grill has a lower range, 150-550ish. Temp control is much easier, but you wont get the crust that most people like with seared meat.

If you plan on taking longer to cook your meals, the pellet grill should be fine. But if you want something that will cook faster if necessary, id go akorn.

Remember, you'll have a learning curve on both. Any idea the cooking area the LG has? Model number?

The guy is checking on model number but I sent the picture he has up to LG support and they say it closely resembles their CS450, just likely and older model.

I think Costco had a ceramic griller around that price. Vision maybe?
