The last few sacks have been terrible. The shells have been extremely dark and hard and there's been a lot of trash and debris mixed in. Is it just because we're seeing end of the year crawfish early because the season started early? What's it been looking like in other areas of the city. I'm in Algiers and i usually go to Sals in Marreo. I tried Capt. Sids today and they were terrible too.

3 weeks ago they were good at the seafood lot in Westwego, I bought from Amy's Seafood. They have 3 different sizes and prices to choose from. There plenty of vendors there so thou can walk around and decide which ones look best to you.
Last week I got a sack from Restaurant Depot for $0.99/lb. Size was decent with some dead crawfish, but for the price it was pretty good. The sack was mainly medium sized.
So far I haven't had any problems with dark and hard crawfish shells. I've done 3 boils myself, first 1 was in Thibodaux, and bought already boiled weekly in between without problems. Maybe try getting sacks with smaller/medium crawfish for softer shells

Not a whole lot if places around here that really give you size options. It's mostly how many lbs do you want and that's it.

Schaefer's is the place that you seek.

Go to Castnet in New Orleans east, premium product. They come washed and everything.....very much worth the drive.

Take a ride down to Casanova's in Poydras.
I've been wanting to check out Restaurant Depot, but are we sure they aren't chinese?

They sell frozen cooked crawfish that are probably Chinese, but I have a hard time believing live crawfish would be shipped over from China and could turn a profit at $0.99/lb.

All crawfish prices will be raised for Easter. Its the biggest money making weekend for crawfish vendors. I like to buy from Castnet if I have the time to go pick it up over there. If I don't have much time to run and pick them up then I go to Schaeffer's in Bucktown.
