It's Derby weekend so I figured I'd seek the knowledge of F&D Board for some of your go to mint julep recipes.

I've never really sat down and tried to churn them out, but am having a party this weekend and want to run through a few leading up to it to try and get a halfway decent one down that I'd feel good serving to people.

What's everyone's go to bourbon, simple syrup etc.? Anyone ever used crushed ice from Sonic?

Feel free to link me to a previous post if this is a yearly occurrence as well.

If you plan on making a lot, I'd suggest getting this. They use this at the track. Just add a little mint.

Had heard that you could buy the bottled mix they use but didn't know if it was worth it. Thanks for the heads up.

Try this

Fix a small Tupperware with a couple cups of bourbon and stuff with as many mint leaves as possible. Let sit in fridge over night. Use a couple shots per drink. BINGO.

Even on a lazy day and making a single I also recommend the Early Times Mint Julep. The liter bottle should be under $15. For my own taste I find it's overly sweet so I cut it with more bourbon.

If you aren't using Woodford Reserve you're doing it wrong

I did this last night. I added simple syrup as well. It smells nice.

Pour a stiff glass of bourbon, add ice, and stick some mint in your lapel.
