Persian cuisine is still similar to Arab cuisine though
It´s the elite cuisine for the Arabs, at least it was about five or six years ago.

The cuisine of North Africa is a little different though

Correct, but most lump it together.

Restaurant wise, the Arabs have americanized their respective kitchen offering, big time.

It is, I´ll admit I don´t know the intricacies, but nearly all Iranian places in the Persian Gulf offer Arab fare as well. Arab places touch on some of Iranian offerings as well.

ETA I´m talking about restaurants, not joints.

Hummus with pita bread is a good start. There are also some pretty tasty lamb shank dishes which should not make you feel out of your Element. There is a dish called tabouli which is chopped up vegetables and what someone call a vinaigrette sauce that is very tasty. I probably spelled it wrong but you should get the point

Like others have said Turkish coffee is awesome but if you are anything like me you will be on the pot shitting your brains out five minutes after you drink it. It is very strong.
