Persian is a lot more complex cuisine than Arab.

Hummus with pita bread is a good start. There are also some pretty tasty lamb shank dishes which should not make you feel out of your Element. There is a dish called tabouli which is chopped up vegetables and what someone call a vinaigrette sauce that is very tasty. I probably spelled it wrong but you should get the point

Like others have said Turkish coffee is awesome but if you are anything like me you will be on the pot shitting your brains out five minutes after you drink it. It is very strong.
