Any Memphians recommend top notch BBQ in Memphis? Walking distance to Beale if possible.

Rendezvous is overrated but the ribs are good, very close to Beale.

Best is Germantown Commisary or BBQ shop but neither is close to Beale.

BBQ shop is maybe 10 minute ride from Beale.

Also, Beale street sucks

bbq shop would be my choice as well, it's really an easy ride and it's in mid town which is a plus.

A bunch of people might say Central but outside of their wings I don't get it.

Anything downtown that you recommend? Going up there the weekend for the Beale St. Festival and staying at the Crowne Plaza downtown. I've been before but we mostly just hung out at the Festival. This year we may be looking to hit more bars, etc. with the impending rain.

The only place on Beale I'd spend any time at is Silky's which is kind of like Pat O's. Maybe do a quick walk by Beale.

Downtown, S. Main street, and the area along the river are cool. I'd check out Earnestine and Hazel's or Raiford's at night. The former is a brothel turned divey club type place, the latter is hard to describe but it's an experience. Gus's fried chicken is close by and is some of the best you'll ever have. Civil Rights museum is close by too if you want some history. I was up there the other weekend and they've really started to develop things. People were riding those beer wagon things up and down Main Street.

Rendezvous is good at what they're known for: ribs. I think it is a cool experience and enjoy the food.

I've had Central many times and always enjoy it. Pulled pork sandwich is solid and the wings are great. Sausage and cheese plate is good too.

ETA: also second the South of Beale recommendation, but be careful, that popcorn is addicting.

if the redbirds are at home, go to a game...the stadium is right across the st from the peabody and its a really neat place to watch a game

afterwards, walk to rendevous and get the ribs, they are great. gus' fried chicken is several blocks away, you could just jump in a cab if you dont have wheels.

BBQ Shop, Central and Kozy Korner are the best. There is a central downtown that u can get to easily from Beale.

It blows my mind that anyone thinks the GTown Commissary is worth a mention here. Their pulled pork is ok (on a good day) but their ribs r compete shite.

I actually don't really eat cheese (i know, i know) so I've never had them but my friends would swear by them. I would always end up getting the pulled pork which was ok but I preferred BBQ shop far more.

Rendevous BBQ is a tourist trap and rip-off.

Head to Central BBQ (Central Ave. near Liberty Bowl) or the BBQ Shop. Another great place is The Commissary in Germantown. The Arcade is a fantastic old place downtown for breakfast. Plenty history and movies shot there.

Gus's is life changing.

I liked Rendezvous for what it was, but kind of expensive.
