Maverick Thermometer - ET732, Customer Service

So I purchased a Maverick 732 last August and used it to great success last fall.
I pulled it out of the drawer to use again this Memorial Day and the probes were giving inaccurate readings. Over 400 on the meat and sometimes registering HHH meaning too hot to register.
Anyway, I emailed Maverick on Friday explaining my problem. I read the probes aren't under warranty and cost about $15 a piece. The owners manual makes it clear these aren't covered.
Just got an email today and they are shipping out two immediately and I'll have them in a few days.
Thought I would spread the word for their kindness.

Good to hear. Best thermometer for the $$ IMO.

I really enjoy mine, it has lasted for years.
But has anyone else noticed an inaccuracy in all of this type of thermometer, you get a higher temp reading than actual, due to the heat conductive properties of the probe. For instance, I was cooking a roast yesterday in my gas grill, the probe was properly centered, but it gave a reading 10F higher than the Thermopen. I presume this is due to the probe conducting heat into the meat.

Make sure you don't stick them in the dishwasher or submerge them when cleaning. Sounds like they got water in them, which is mostly how they fail.

Good to hear. Quick question regarding the meat probe, does the whole thing register heat or just the first inch or two? Do I need to insert the whole probe into the meat?

Good question, I bury mine in the center of a roast, as far as it the size of the roast allows.

Same, but the probe tip seems to end up near the other edge of the meat most times.

The tip should be in the middle of the largest part of the meat, not touching any bone of course. It doesn't need to be inserted all the way.
Agreed with an above poster that water was probably introduced to the probe.
Just an FYI for those reading this thread, I had a cheaper thermometer where the probe always died. Since I rely heavily on my Maverick now, I went ahead and ordered another probe online from here. I'm glad I did because not only was my original probe lost (it didn't fail, I think a critter took off with it) but the probe in the above link is 6 feet long, which I love far better than the shorter probe that comes with the unit.
