What does everyone see in this place? Super overpriced and the food sucks and is always cold. I guess its the bloodys.

the food may be overpriced, but I wouldn't say it sucks.

Haven't been in a while though because the crowds aren't worth it.

I lived in BR for 10 years and only went 2 times. While I wouldn't say that it blows, it doesn't live up to the hype. It certainly isn't worth driving across BR to get to when there are other options (Parrain's etc.) on my (former) side of town.

I didn't think it was that expensive, no more than Mike Anderson's and it tasted better. The bloody mary was fricking fantastic but anyone can buy Zing Zang and make one just as good.

I think these two restaurants are about the same. I wouldn't recommend crossing town just for the food.

I rarely go because it is across town and I don't work that way anymore, but I think their burgers are good. The wings aren't too shabby either.

It isn't my favorite restaurant in the world, but it isn't gross.

I do think there are numerous better Sunday brunches and I don't understand waiting an hour for theirs. I also think the place is pretty ratty inside, which is one of the reasons I don't make the journey over there often.

Don't know about other stuff, but the burgers are better than most places in BR (besides Flemings and Barcadia) and like $8 with fries. Drink and tip are the only thing that make it slightly higher than a Wendy's combo meal.

We went once and didn't think it was great. Plus, it's kind of nasty in there. The Chimes is a much better bet for brunch. But Baton Rouge people love them some Mason's.

two things BR people will wait forever for and I don't get it: 1) Sammy's 2) Mason's

Agreed. Everytime I'm in BR, somone wants to go there. Place truly is crap. Much better burgers out there, bloody mary's aren't scratch made, and true: food is always cold.

It's funny, places like Mason's still make it here in Austin, but at least people here have the honesty to fess up that is not that good, but really just decent enough grub for a neighborhood option.

I'm fine with mediocre places....just don't recommend them as a "MUST GO!"/"Best in Town!" type of place.

So which is it?

And people in Austin are somehow to be lauded because they are honest about going to a crap place where the food is always cold?

Yes. Honesty trumps delusion any day/everyday

I don't mind the food, but the atmosphere and location are less than desirable.

Best in BR is debatable, but saying they aren't good is disingenuous.

I'm a fan of the BBQ burger. You can't beat the happy hour specials either. Wings are overrated, and you won't catch me there on Sundays, but there are good things on the menu.

I walked in - ordered a beer - went to piss, saw the bathroom, walked out without even going back to the bar for the beer I ordered. Guess I cost them a beer.

That bathroom hasn't been cleaned since Curtis Pedigo and his wife were running the joint.
