Visited the one by Bonnabel this week. Has their selection gone down? It didn't seem they are offering as many wines as they used to.

Yeah, I've noticed that as well.

In Baton Rouge calandros, alexanders and hokus pokus all have better selections imo.

The one in Mandeville is a joke.

They've gotten terribly pedestrian and their prices are nothing special for what they have.

Try Brady's or Keife - both in the CBD - if you want anything interesting at all.

I noticed it was also smaller than normal. I would suggest Aquistapace in Mandeville if you're in that area.

What the heck happened to them? Used to be really good. Back wall was nothing but wines, now foodstuffs. Only one box of reidell stemware, stemware is cheaper stuff now, like below $10 per box. Don't recall seeing cakebread but I probably missed that one.

They reflect the neighborhood in which they are located. Elderly white crowd; lots of fixed income folks. Plus, there are tons more wins shops throughout N.O. than when Martin's used to dominate the N.O. market. In my area (Bywater) alone we have Bacchanal, Faubourg Wines, Grande Krewe and Second Vine.

They are just reflecting what most people want. Buying habits have changed.

But the prices are better for liquor.

Looked at their FB page. Hardly anything about wine. Most recent posts were about foods. Nothing about new wines, recommendations, or tastings

The one in Metairie usually has 2 or 3 tastings a month on various formats for wine, scotch, bourbon, etc. Might be taking a break from them for mardi gras as I know they had one last night.

I think the rise of so many good grocery store wine departments and more younger people drinking cocktails has hurt their wine sales. They def. have gone with lesser expensive focused wines.

I do still see the high rollers in their from time to time pre-ordering their Bourdeauxs and getting special orders.

Interesting that someone told me that Martin is the only retailer in the state that also has a wholesale permit.

Correct...wines unlimted which has an impressive portfolio.

The high end wines are in their cellar...just ask and they will take you in it.

Unrelated to wine, for lunch, there used to be a buy six get a seventh dish free, but they ditched the program at the beginning of the year. My dad eats there regularly and was bummed by the change.

They just had some big wine tasting event and there's a rose thing next week, but yeah they do push the food hard, especially catering right now for upcoming Mardi Gras parade parties.

I've heard this too. The type of permit has been phased out by the state, but Martin's is apparently grandfathered in.
