Marcello's in NOLA

Who has been to this new gem?
I was in town last week with the wife and we dined here. Right next door to Herbsaint.
Great bar area - we arrived early and had some cocktails and chatted with the owner and few other patrons. After my negroni, we were seated. The walls and seating areas are partitioned by wine racks that are filled with Italian and Spanish wines (and others, I didn't pay close enough attention). The wine markup is low - probably only 10% - and the selection is dizzying. I requested a barollo and it was abt $60/bottle. Excellent.
We had the pate, split a salad and I ordered the braised pork cheeks and polenta. Wife had the house made pasta with bolognese. One of the best meals I have had. Top 5 all time. Excellent service.
Beautiful room - open kitchen - so you see all the hustle. I really cannot compliment this place enough. I might go back tonight.
We got a desert, too, but I forgot what it was. The owner sent over a small bit of the braised beef cheek - heavenly. Poured us some rose desert wine, too.
We got the check - $160 with the tip. Crazy. Other places in NOLA (and Cristiano in Houma) would have easily eclipsed $220. I would eat there every freaking day if I could. Gene!

Yep. Gene is doing it right over there. I only got to go once before I moved but it was a great dinner. The wine prices are better than similarly-designed Bacchanalia.

Nice review!
Still haven't tried them yet, but all I hear is good things. Thinking of running over there Friday night. Some of their pasta dishes sound excellent.

They know what they are doing for sure. Good people too.

You should make reservations ASAP. They are killing it. Tell Gene you are member of the FBD Krewe and that you know me.

Just snagged a spot. I'll be expecting Gene to give us the goods.
Plus, I'll just have him put it on KJ's tab!

I'm eating there tonight, you little mind reader. That place is AWESOME! Me and the g/f favorite place. We try to go every few weeks.

Ok- Kim Jong, I guess you I owe you about $150. I went in tonight after a few cocktails at Balise. They were ok, and the few bites I tried were ok. Unlikely to return for food at Balise.
I did try the crudo, and artichoke app at Marcello's tonight. Both were very solid. The fish, think it was yellow tail snapper, was cut too small. IMO. It was very well flavored even if a tad too spicy and salty for my taste. Very good and the lady had zero complaints. We picked out a bottle of Dolccetto de Alba which was excellent. Just easy enought to pair with all of our food. I think it was about $40-50. Not bad.
For entree's, we split the pork cheek with polenta and the papardelle. Right off the bat, I could tell the cheek dish was memorable. Completely succulent with great char on the cheek yet still delicate. Top shelf dish. If they have a better dish, I would be surprised. The papardelle was solid and very tasty, but not in the same world. I think for roughly $150 all included, it was pretty solid. We did have a partial May Day march right down St. Charles, but luckily they were diverted. I assume they were paid to not cross Herb and Marcello's (St. Car line). I did see Mr. Link dining at Herb at the same time.
I hope all NOLA residents enjoyed an al fresco dinner last night. It was easily one of the best night's in NOLA we'll ever have.

I had it when they were here in BR and it is fantastic.
Their lasagna, while I know is kindof a boring thing to order, is amazing.

I love Marcello's but last night they pissed me off by not bringing bread. Eventually we asked for it and we got old stale stuff. Later as we were finishing, other tables got the good bread. If you are out, just tell me. Don't just skip it like you don't usually serve it or worse, serve me crap. Ok my bread rant is over.

heading down at some point over the summer. we'll check this place out.
would it be able to accommodate larger parties (somewhere in the 10-14 range)?

But they have really good bread
They have space in the back and there was actually a party of about 10 in the front last night, but you would need to plan ahead. They are constantly busy.

I got a piece of the bread, but wasn't overly impressed. I didn't want or need it though.
What time were you there last night? Did you see the May Day march? It was insane. We were dining outside, right off the street, and thought we were going to have to run inside. If they would have kept marching down St. Charles, I was going to throw that bread at the unwashed masses!!!

We weren't there until 8. I saw some of the people in the park when we got home from jazz fest and I was like wtf are people protesting now?
Living by Lafayette Square isn't boring that's for sure.
