Goldan Corral presents an excellent variety of culinary classics from America and abroad. I personally enjoy the assorted gravy and macaroni options.

Never been there but it reminds me of a cheap casino buffet from those pictures.

Do they have a steak section where they cut the meat every 30 minutes to an hour? Its usually vacant and then a stampede when the meat comes out

The steak is a signature dinner item. Most locations have elected a meat-guard that separates patrons from the cooking arena.

They are building a new location off Millerville and probably be shutting the Sherwood location down once it's done.

I'm a sucker for the pot roast.

I pile on extra boiled egg at the salad bar.

For dessert, I grab a piece of carrot cake and scrape of the icing before I eat it.

I've never been to one. The turkey looks good. I might consider it when I'm having a roasted turkey craving. Can you order just one thing to go?

It is the perfect spot for 5th grade field trips. Trust me on this.

That place is a guaranteed laxative for me. I can barely make it home in time. I stopped going years ago. Still, the thought of it will get things "moving" a little.

It's nice that they have it, but just have to ask why a place like this would even bother with sugar free desserts? I can't imagine those get many takers.

GC's vary by location. The one by my house is very good compared to the absolute shite one on Hwy 290. The best one IMO is the one off of I-10 in Beaumont.

The good thing about GC is with the variety of food you can go with large groups and everyone will have something good to eat. Even vegetarians - the vegetarians from India at the office love the GC by my house and go there often for lunch.

This is how I've been forced into going in the past. Been twice in the last few years and was expectedly god-awful both times. I hate when I waste calories on terrible food, the fact that even know people that want to eat at these type establishments really annoys me.
I really tried once to be open minded and find something decent. But the entire group even acknowledged that it's pure bland garbage.

The turkey may have just been for Thanksgiving. A lot of GC's are now open on Thanksgiving day. I have only seen turkey a couple times around the holidays at the one by my house.

At GC they have to go containers at the back of the back of the pay counter. You grab them yourself and put food in them and then pay when you leave. They charge by weight.

I have some turnip greens in the freezer and have never been good at cornbread. So on a Saturday when I throw the greens in the slow-cooker I'll go to GC and get cornbread. Probably cheaper than making it since it weighs next to nothing.

I used to hate banana pudding but after having multiple wisdom teeth pulled and having to eat soft food for 3 days I realized I LOVE banana pudding and will sometimes stop by GC and get just the pudding. It's the only place I know of that has it.

I will also get the fried fish to go on Fridays and just have fish with ketchup. The fish is also a good bargain when paying by weight. I can get a container of banana pudding and pay three times as much as a container packed full of fried fish.

The soup/banana pudding containers: GC's look like this but are larger:

Containers for other foods - fish, cornbread, meatloaf, mashed taters, chicken fried steak - CF chicken, macaroni & cheese and the heavenly yeast rolls.

Gris, just realized the pictures may freak you out, but if you want to get more than three items you can just get two of the compartmentalized containers. They weigh empty container(s) like you are getting and zero the scale before weighing the food.

I love having a GC within reasonable driving distance of the house. If doing a big dinner and forget something or someone makes a last minute request, it is easier to jump in the truck and head to GC to pick it up than going to the grocery store and having to prepare it.

And to think there are some poor souls who have such weak internal workings that they can't even handle that. Sad for them.

Last time I went to one on Sherwood there were more flys in there than customers and place was packed. I left without eating
