I've never thought of it, but I must agree. Great fried chicken is much harder to pull off, and Ball's is some of the best I've ever had.

what are some of the similarities and differences between the fried chicken and the Poboy? Curious as to why the chicken is better

You're talking about Leonard's Food Quarter's popcorn shrimp dinner. A mainstay for my family during lent growing up. Box overflowing with popcorn shrimp, fries and a few pieces of iceberg as the salad.

It's really good, I agree.

I'm still partial to Popeyes though.

What turned me off is when I went in to get it, the place was full of smoke. Not steam, smoke. Like the oil was bad or something.

I'm talking like a bar full of people smoking smoke.

Not sure I'll try it again but it was good. All the smoke though really got to me though.

Balls is the best. Never been disappointed.

As sad as it is to say, Darrell's isn't close to what it used to be, even before Darrell passed... back in the day it was the best. Now I'll get it a couple of times a year for nostalgia, mostly.

Speaking of LC, how is Casa Manana these days?

Speaking of staples from my youth. I know it's gone downhill, but I remember the salsa and margaritas being on point. I live by some of the best Mexican food in the southwest, but I still like some casa for nostalgia

Balls Cajun seasoning has replaced Slap Ya Mamma and Tony's at my house. Not sure how far they distribute from LC but it's worth picking up if you're ever in town. Seems to have a finer grind to it than other seasonings.

pretty terrible. If I want Tex Mex or Taco's it's either The Sloppy Taco, Victoria's Taqueria, or Rosita's in Sulphur. Casa is a complete non starter, but Coyote Blue's and Casa Ole give it stiff competition for worst Tex Mex in southwest Louisiana.

Margaritas are still great though.
