Went tonight because it was Oysters night. When we sat down to order, I asked for the oysters and the waitress said if you order that it will be 45 -60 minutes for raw and char-grilled oysters. I made the comment that was the reason why we came today. She apologized. We decided to wait for them. Kids meals were good and worth the price. Kids drinks were $3 which made no sense. About an hour later, we did get the oysters. The chargrilled were very good. It is just a shame on Oyster night, they weren't ready for people to order them. The waitress was very sweet and did fine. The table next to us had to get theirs to go because it looked so long. It just seems that whatever restaurant is that location is cursed.

I do agree with you about Calendar's until the worker got shot. Then everything went downhill

that's how a lot of places get you on kids night.

even though, i've noticed a lot of restaurants now charge at least $2 to $3 for soft drinks or tea. That seems really high to me. you are looking at almost $20 for drinks for a family of 5. That's before you even order food.

Went there last week. It was good, but it took forever to get our food. Hardly anybody was in the restaurant too. They also keep it on arctic blast temp inside.

Even more of a reason to drink water instead of soft drinks.

My kids will drink water until they can buy their own soda. Not a monetary issue but a healthy choice.

Kind of a letdown.

Must have been weird for those people to get oysters to go.

That location seems like it's cursed but they aren't helping themselves making people wait an hour for oysters.

Agreed. Again, the staff apologized and stuff, but it was ridiculous to promote an oyster night on the radio, then not have them available. :banged:

Probably won't go back.

What's the story on that?

Is that why they went under?

I've been twice (not for oyster night) and enjoyed it both times. Food service was prompt both times. I just forget it's there.

About 20 years ago, just before Thanksgiving, a disgruntled ex-employee went to Calendar's one Sunday morning when they were getting ready for lunch, robbed the place and fatally shot a couple of employees. Guy planned to shoot up the whole restaurant but his gun jammed, so it saved the other workers. The people who were shot were well-liked by their co-workers, so it really had an impact.

When Calendar's closed a while back, the owner said the shooting was a factor. It just kind of put a black cloud over the place...bummed out workers and regular customers. It was different than the shooting at T.J. Ribs, that was two guys who had issues with each other.

Yeah, I was waiting tables at another restaurant when the shooting happened. That Calendar's was where we would drink after work. That's the other thing, it was a big service industry hang out.
I went back and read some of The Advocate coverage of the shooting. It was awful. One of the victims was a young woman...there was a 911 call of her begging the gunman not to shoot her. Then, you hear gunshots. The shooter is on death row in Angola right now.

Uggh. Just realized I spent my 4,000 post on this depressing crap and not putting up pictures of Christina Hendricks in lingerie.

How many years was that before it closed? I thought they stayed open for 4-5 years later. Any way I really miss the burgers, jambalaya pasta, camp potatoes, chicken fried steak,...damn

If they told you it was going to take an hour upfront and the restaurant wasn't near full then I see it as a ploy for them get you to order more alcohol to help offset the discount on the oysters.
