I keep reading articles about the horror of the double down, but it really isn't horrible compared to many other fast food sandwiches.

The whopper has more calories at 670.

The Big Mac also has 540 calories.

Wendys double is 740 calories.

Not saying this is healthy but compared to normal fast food fare it is par for the course.

Now, I am not sure of the actual size. I haven't seen any pics of people eating it.

If one is a meal, then I don't see why there have been so many complaints, but if they are tiny with that many calories then that is another thing altogether.

And what is there not to like...

Fried Chicken.....Good
Bacon ............Real Good
Cheese............Good
Spicy Mayo .......Good

Looks good to me.

Calorie-wise, it ain't bad, but it does have 1380 mg of sodium. It appears people love it. Watch the new video on CNN.com. There's even a shot at the end worthy of the OT.

Looks like the kind of crap I used to concoct when I was on Atkins.

First thing I thought when I saw it. The grilled version would probably fit perfectly into the atkins menu.

What would it mean to order a plain Double Down? We may need new language to describe this shite.

Ha. Plain would mean two pieces of chicken.

Or if the chicken is the bun then plain would be no cheese or mayo.

I think you are right, and here's my reasoning. While bacon is undeniably meat, it can't be the meat, when the bread is chicken and present in much larger quantities. So if "plain" means "meat and bread", and bacon isn't the meat, while chicken is both meat and bread, it follows that "plain" means "chicken and chicken". And since bacon can be easily turned into bits, it's basically a condiment anyway; this view is supported by this Yahoo answer. Whew. I think I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Bread is mainly what, flour? The crust on fried chicken is mainly what, flour? So why is this considered bunless(breadless)?

P.S. I still want one.

It is an atkins dream come true. I used to be a fat frick all my life until I started eating this way. Now this is extreme grant you, but every once in a while... I stay away from fast food as much as I can, but when I get a craving it would be for this. Until now my guilty pleasure of choice was the BK triple stacker. Meaty, cheesy, bacony goodnes with tangy sauce and almost no bun to speak of.

I always lost a ton of weight on Atkins. I always got sick of it and started my old, terrible ways. I love all food, and cannot restrict.

I have given up. I plan on eating what I want until I die.

The carbs from the breading actually might make it a bad choice for Atkins.

And the grilled version may use a marinade that has too many carbs.

They haven't put up the full nutritional info yet.

The Atkins diet is the quick ticket to death. I was overweight by forty pounds and my friends recommend the Atkins diet. I bought his first and second book and followed them religiously. I lost fifty-two pounds but always felt tired. When I went to my docs after five months on Atkins and had a complete physical, including blood work. The days later the lab results came back. My cholesterol (sp) was over the roof plus all the bad cholesterol was way over the roof. I was extremely close to having a heart attack or a stroke. I joined weight watchers in Denham Springs the following month. I lost weight, plus the food tastes great and my blood work five months after I joined came back fantastic. I quickly learned that Weight Watchers isn't a diet but a healthier way of eating. Since I left La. three years ago, I gained eight pounds. This coming Monday I'm joining Weight Watchers here in Montgomery.

The problem with Atkins is there is no real set calorie limit so some people go to town with it and that negates any of the good that can come from it.
