I hear there's a way to do this with vinegar? Is it as simple as pouring some in the reservoir? I see there's some solution Keurig sells but not sure how thrilled I am about using something like that in a coffee maker.

I think you can run the reservoir through a dishwasher. At least on my model you can. Do that, then fill it halfway with vinegar and to the top with water. If you have different cup sizes that it will brew, just keep brewing the largest one until the reservoir is empty. Fill it back up with water and empty it again. Similar to using vinegar on any other coffee maker. I do that with my Bunn at the house about once a month. Half a carafe of vinegar and then followed with 2-3 carafes of water, until the vinegar smell is gone.

If you would've just used distilled water to begin with, you wouldn't be in this predicament.

They used to recommend the vinegar cleaning to remove calcium deposits, or scale, that built up. I always use bottled drinking water, and I have never need to clean one.

A friend has done the vinegar, and he said they had hell getting rid of the vinegar smell.

To clean the needle, use a straightened paperclip to punch the holes in it. Or put a straw in the reservoir, use hands and towel to seal the top, and blow. The air pressure will clear anything clogging the needle. Many people have used this to save what they thought had become junk.

The black scum that accumulates at the screen and on the bottom of the reservoir tank pissed me off. Clogs up everything and I hate to clean it,

I can't remember how many the recommended number of cycles is when you brew with vinegar (it's like 2 or 3), but whatever it is, double it....at minimum. When I cleaned mine the first time, I ran it however many times it said to, then made a cup of coffee, and I almost threw up. It tasted like almost straight vinegar, with a coffee flavor. It was disgusting.

The first cup or two after running a vinegar cycle will be pretty rancid.

I fill half the reservoir with water and pour 1 cup of vinegar. I run 2 cycles then let the machine sit in the on position for 6-8 hours. It gives the vinegar time to descale the unit.
After, I empty the reservoir and wash it with dawn. Fill with water and run multiple cycles of fresh water until the vinegar smell is gone.

I have done this for the past 3 years and have yet to have a problem with the machine.
