Jeezus, that's growler prices...

My issue with Pelican House is twice I've been inside and then a band was coming in. They wanted to charge me a cover even though I was in before the band arrived.

Not for Ghost, but ive seen world class DIPAs in that price range for a growler. Obviously, the demand is high enough to where they can command those kind of prices. Eventually, they should come down...

It's BR. Our craft beer scene isn't in the same stratosphere as yours.

You view things through the lens of Oregon, which is totally natural, and it prevents you from understanding just how behind things are here. Those prices aren't coming down, at least not soon.

Had some of the worst oysters there.
The food is bad, the beer is bad (and expensive), the staff is clueless. It has all of the hallmarks of a failing bar but it is somehow still afloat.

Sure they will. 2 years ago, Ghost didnt exist. 2 years from now, Ghost wont be the top dog in LA. They wont be able to charge those kind of prices.

Maybe they have stepped their game up in the last year or two since I've been, but they lost my business a long time ago.

Not growler price, but literally more expensive than a crowler of Ghost from Parish.

People always shite on their beer selection, but I don't get the impression they are going for the craft beer bar. Full disclosure: I spend a lot of time there.

They aren't so much anymore, but when they opened, their tap # was all that was advertised.
FWIW, I don't mind the place. Several friends are regulars, and I used to go a good bit. Tried to go for brunch last Sunday, but left when I saw the lot too full. (Then I got on FB and realized it was full because it was a manager's birthday [who I love to death], so I kicked myself for turning around and going elsewhere)
I just haven't been in forever and never go anymore due to my work schedule/only having weekends off.

Not sure why you're getting down voted, the 1 time I went the bar tender was super excited to tell me they had Guinness on tap.
I found their selection was basically every possible BMC variant plus all the BMC owned craft pretenders.
Have never been back after that

They were at first, but I guess after the 'new factor' wore off they realized it wasn't going to pay the bills so they changed strategy. It's working for them, it seems.

I actually decided to go try the Pelican House Friday night with a few buddies. Walked up to the door and ole boy asked for my ID and $5. I LAUGHED and walked out to CBD where the bartender was extremely knowledgeable and nice.
Fast forward to last night. Decided to give them another try because I wanted a pint of KBS. We sat in there for 15 minutes until our waitress decided to come over but once she did, she was great all night. Got a hamburger that was very mediocre tasting but I wasn't expecting anything great in the first place. The service was pretty good and the waitress was fairly educated on what they had to offer. They, by far, have the highest priced beer in the city to my knowledge which is more than likely the reason I will not be going back unless they have something on tap that I want and can't get anywhere else
