Primo Oval XL here too. Glad I went w it and not a BGE or KJ due to size/shape. I have a KJ at the camp and the oval is more versatile w split firebox and wider design. My $.02

I've owned both a KJ and a BGE.........both are solid. You can't go wrong with either.

I moved from a BGE to a Primo Oval XL a few years back. I think both are great, but the Primo has more versatility. I don't think you could really go wrong with either.

Have owned a BGE for last 6-7 years. Simply put, it's an awesome piece of cooking hardware.

That said, one of the makes has an oval shape which fits better with briskets and ribs.

Just curious, what makes these better than a Weber Kettle? I been using a Weber for a long time and I think it works great, there is nothing that I look at and say it needs improvement. So, what am I missing?

I'm not familiar with a Weber Kettle but ceramic cookers are very versatile and a do a great job of maintaining temps for prolonged periods with only minor attention required.

I bought a Kamado Joe off Craigslist over the weekend and after I cleaned it out by bringing it to 600 for 30 mins. Today I'm lighting it up to cook a chicken and I notice the ceramics on the inside are cracked. So either I missed the cracks when I bought it, happened in transit, or on cleaning. Are cracks a big deal? I've done some Web searching and it appears common but since I'm not original owner not sure if warranty holds, although I do have the original receipt. I got it for a huge deal, husband died (unfortunate for them not for me). Do I need to replace?

Unless it has a time limit on the warranty and the warranty is about to run out, I'd use it until it became an issue. Then I'd worry about it.

Kamado grills

Just pulled the trigger on a BGE. Wanted the Primo for a couple reasons but even with my builders discount the Primo would have cost me several hundred more than the BGE.

They all about the same outside the Primo that is an oval shape so get whatever one you get the best deal on.

I've been intrested in getting a char-griller for the longest time with the same principle in mind, hoping to get a cheap alternative to the BGE.

Char-Griller Amazon

From reviews i've read, the Kamado Joe is a great alternative to the BGE FWIW

There is no ceramic in this grill at all. It's not a cheap alternative, it's just a cheap look-alike.
