Had the pleasure of eating here Friday. This place was fantastic. IMO, based off of the meal we had, this is the best place in Baton Rouge. For those that don't know, this is the restaurant that took over Chelsea's building.

For starters, we had the Shrimp and Fish Ceviche, and the Fried Calamari. The Ceviche was fantastic, and the Calamari was great as well.

For our meals, we had the Grilled Amberjack, Seared Scallops, braised pork belly, and the crawfish gnocchi.

The grilled Amberjack was amazing. It was my first time eating Amberjack and i need more of this in my life. Great flaky white fish. Tasted almost like lobster. My brother had the braised pork belly and it was phenomenol. Creamy and smoky. Even the butternut squash had a great smokey taste to it. My wife had the seared scallops and they were really great as well. My sister in law had the crawfish gnocchi, and while i didn't taste it, she loved it and she's a very picky eater.

Really happy to have this as another option in BR.

Where do you catch them at? The rigs? My father-in-law has a 23 or 25 foot bay ranger in Lafitte, wondering if it's a doable boat ride from there or we need to pull up and go down to Venice or somewhere.

Please don't take your ranger out there to the rigs. You may skate by on good days but if it turns on you, you're gonna be in deep shite.

you have to go to some deep water and it is different than just dropping down and catching snapper. We have been on a tuna kick but we sill still get some of these when they are in season. catching one on a knife jig is fun as hell.

Sounds like we need a bigger boat, lol.

Not really.

Drop hard tail to bottom. Reel up a few feet, ride the freight train.

when I went, the food was good and I'd been meaning to ask the FDB or the OB: the special fish was Gulf Striped Bass. I've done ALOT of fishing in the gulf and have never caught a Striped bass.

can anyone shed any light on this mystery fish?

and real up a snapper 9/10 times.

granted if the rig is stacked with AJ's a different story. But i have had more luck targeting them butterflying them a few yards off the rig.

I did as well and not gonna lie I was still hungry after that small arse portion. If your a foodie type of person yes you will like it but your wallet and belly will be empty after. If your not into the whole small portion foodie scene you won't like it

This exact thing happened to me. I don't know much about fish, but when I said I had this fish there, a friend told me he's never heard of such a thing.

I haven't had this problem at Kalurah, but I've had it twice with Cocha. To the point where I don't know if I'll go back.

Here are photos from Kalurah pulled from Yelp.

The portion of scallops at Kalurah comes with 4 and cheese grits. This is a very normal portion in a restaurant. I think the issue is that scallops aren't filling, which is why I never order them.

If I remember correctly they were about $20 something which isn't much imo

Sadly, they're about that price (if not even more) everywhere. Which is funny considering they don't have much of their own flavor. I like them, but I've never felt they're worth paying for in a restaurant. I think they sell so well because the average person sees them as exotic.

The portion size is great. Normally I wouldn't even think of having dessert but I had just enough room to try the grapefruit tart. It makes my top 5 of all time best desserts.

Went last night... didnt care for the calamari but scallops and amberjack were awesome. Service is a little slow but not terrible. Parking always has, and will continue to be an issue there
