MIL got it for me as early Christmas present since me and my wife are moving into our house. Woman is a saint.

It is the 22 inch. Anybody have this or use one similar to it? What do you like to cook on it. I need some ideas. It is my first grill.

I have the 18 inch version and wish I had gotten the 22 inch.. Great grill...Look on youtube about the snake method for placing your charcoal in the pit. That method is great for cooking things low and slow.

Whenever I smoke anything I always have the vents opened very slightly like an 2/8 inch..I am sure there will people who disagree but it works for me...

Is it a good smoker? I would have never thought I could smoke something on it. I just figured I would be able to grill the basics: chicken, burgers, steaks. Maybe bc it looks like an old school grill.

It’s a great and versatile grill. I’ve had my 22 for serveral years. It works well as a smoker and for high heat cooking.

Look up the snake method- I’ve held 230-250 for almost 9 hours before with the weather right. Put out some good briskets and butts.

For high heat, it’s gotten up over 600 with the Pizza Kettle attachment and plenty of lump charcoal.

As far as accessories, I have the Bbq dragon side table that works great for added space.

It's a great smoker..Just set your coals to one side and put the meat on the opposite side of the grill..That's what you call the indirect method. Like I said I have the 18 inch grill. I smoked a 15 pound turkey. Space is at a premium so I took the top grill out and I put the bird in a pan down on the bottom grill (where you put the coals). I had the coals on the opposite side. I used a good size piece of foil as a shield to prevent too much heat on the bird. Works like a charm.

Great grill. Do some reading on "2 zone" grilling. Yes you can indeed smoke on it and produce good bbq. If it were me I would lean towards meats that are better for smoking hotter and faster (ribs, chicken, etc..) You can set it up to smoke for longer time frames but it will be slightly harder to keep a constant temp for a long amount of time.

Rotisserie attachment would be a pretty neat thing to add when you get more comfortable using your new weber.

Well first of all, go to amazon and search weber accessories. There's alot of cool things you can do with a weber.

Here's what i recommend.

It's a surprisingly good smoker but you'll need the right accessories to really maximize it.

The slow n sear is a really good option.

If you were only doing 2 zone cooking, do you think the SnS is worth it?

I'm buying my father-in-law a new 26" Weber for Christmas and am considering getting a SnS but he doesn't smoke. He does a LOT of 2 zone cooking though.

The Master Touch model is the GOAT in the world of kettle grills. The grates are stainless steel. The charcoal baskets are included. I load one basket for chicken and move it to one side. It holds between 350-375f and cooks in about 45 minutes. I’ve done pork butt the same way, but with a drip pan underneath the grate beside the coal basket.

For a great first cook, watch this video. . Pork tenderloin is inexpensive and easy.

Only in this regard. You can manage the coals alot better. They're nice and tidy in the slow n sear. No precarious stacking, no sloping, no coals falling and slipping off the pile.

Also it's better for searing because the coals aren't sloping like a hillslide. They're even, therefore you get a more even sear.

If however you only get one of those accessories i listed, get the adjustable grill grate. Weber kettles with fixed position grates can be difficult to manage as far as heat goes when direct grilling. That grate can go a long way toward managing flame ups and preventing burning.

I love mine.

A big eye of round from sams, slow roasted to medium rare and cut thin with a meat slicer. Great for french dip sandwiches.

From a practical standpoint, if were to get only one of those accessories, it would be the adjustable grill grate.

No i don't think so. Check their website though. What you could do however is simply sit it on top of the 26 inch grill grate. Although smaller, it's better than burning the meat you're cooking because you can't control the flames. It's especially useful for direct grilling chicken, you know something fatty like that.

Maybe instead of a 26 inch weber, you should consider getting him a 22 incher and some really useful accessories.
