Just got a BGE for X-mas. What should I get for it? Where to start?

A large with a Nest on wheels. Pretty nice. Just got finished putting it together and wheeling it in the garage.
I noticed there is nothing to block the fire for indirect heat, so I guess I need that to smoke on. I also noticed I don;t have the heavy cast iron grates, so I need that as well I guess.
I have cooked on them before, but never had one of my own. Just want to know where to start off.
Thanks in advance.

Mainly, I want to tap the knowledge of this board. I kind of scoffed at the Egg for being out of my OT poor range, but I was gifted it by my wonderful aunt and uncle, who are Mississippi ballers.
I don't know how to cook on it with the direct heat, do I have to buy the heat shield thing before I use it to smoke?
I was thinking of starting with a but and happen to have one in the freezer now.
My Char-griller will go out to the curb tomorrow I guess.
I'm excited, I had no idea I was getting this. I was asked to go to the hardware store to pick up an order. Pull around and they say they have an egg for me.
I want to use it right away, but have a wedding to go to today and a Saints game tomorrow, so figured I would research first.

You need a plate setter for indirect cooks, the that's about the only must

There's not a lot that you "need", just a lot of stuff that's nice to have and expands what you can do with it. The plate setter and a way to adjust the height of of the grate is a must for me. If you're handy, you can make a way to adjust the grates for next to nothing.

Sell it and get a primo.
Weren't you one of the ones saying ceramics are overrated? If not, I apologize.

Don't throw the char griller away. I use all of mine, gas, egg, Webber kettle. About to buy an electric smoker.
Plate setter, cleaning tool and a grate remover is nice. Pizza stone is nice too. That is all I have. My ceramic insert is cracked and I haven't had a gasket in a few years but it cooks like the day I bought it.
Put a whole chicken on it and enjoy. Prettiest bird you can cook.

If you are going to buy a plate setter look for the cast iron one. You can really sear a steak well on it. I don't think you can do that on the ceramic one.

or you can get that puppy to about 900 degrees and sear it directly

You can, but I would prefer a more even sear as opposed to flames shooting up and creating an uneven sear. You can still get it that hot and get that cast iron screaming hot. Just my opinion.

Mine is ceramic but I have put a cast iron skillet on the grill and that works well. I didn't know they even made a cast iron plate setter.

Get a plate setter. Cook a pork butt.

pork butt or ribs is a good place to start

I just saw it last week for $129. I ordered one for my boss. It looks pretty bad arse and I think it sits a little lower than the grate, it will even be closer to the fire.
