Izzo's is my favorite of the counter service Tex Mex places. It's great. And I don't give a shite that it's not authentic.

Not a fan of Moe's. I'd put Izzo's a slight notch above Salsarita's, and Salsarita's a notch above Quedoba(sp?). Never been to a Chipotle.

I get illegal sauce and the hot sauce on my burrito... the grilled corn is awesome and so is the queso.

My only complaint is it is too cold as served. I come home throw it in the oven at 250-275 for about 15 minutes and let the cheese melt.

sweet.... I'd rather an Illegal Pete's or even a Chipotle in Metairie, but I like Izzo's also.

The vast majority of the $8 tasteless burrito genre has grown stale, from Sh!tpotle, Izzo, Moe,etc..

If you want a good burrito, go to a quality mexican taqueria or restraunt..though Freebird, Illegal Pete's,etc..make good ones.

Wahoo's, Rubio's, Baja Fresh, etc..will eventually expand out of the southwest with the "fresh mex" craze that is quite popular in SD, LA, SF, LV, Phoenix, Denver, Austin, Dallas etc..and bury these pretenders..I'd rather a good fish taco!

There's no such thing as an "authentic" Subway-style burrito restaurant, that includes Chipotle, Qdoba, Moe's, and Izzo's. But for what it's worth, the owner of Izzo's (Ozzi) is a Mexican guy from Texas.

I've tried burritos from all of those places, each one has it's pros and cons. But from here on out, I'm only getting my burritos from Taco and Burrito Express, there's really no competition. Was there two days ago, enjoying a chicken burrito.

First burrito place I remember in NOLA was Kokopelli's, uptown off of St. Charles, that had to have been in the mid 90's.

Ever since Zippy's opened, I don't think I've heard a single positive comment about their food.

Ozzi is a great guy and treats his guests and employees well. He puts out a consistently good product and I think he will do very well in both of those markets. Good luck Ozzi.

No competition is right. Based on my trip, Izzo's blows that place away in every category except price and salsa. And I'll gladly pay more at Izzo's for fresh jalepenos, fresh pico de gallo, and chunks of chicken breast instead of shreadded chicken. I will say that the salsa at T&BE was really good. That's about all that I was impressed with.

No doubt. But the other stuff they serve isn't anywhere near authentic either.

I think it's pretty tasty though.

Is this in Baton Rouge?

They have a place here called El Burrito Jr. or something like that. It's the best Mexican food on the planet.

The salsa at T&BE is made fresh. In fact, everything there is made from scratch, the only thing that comes from a container are the Jalapenos (I pointed this out right off the bat in my review thread). Next time you go to Izzo's, ask the manager on duty where they buy their jalapenos from.

You're the only person on this forum to actually say they were disappointed with Taco and Burrito Express. Looking back at your other post, it seems like you're an incredibly finicky eater in the first place.

I'm not a rice or beans fan, so I didn't get either on my burrito. There was as much lettuce as chicken, and the tomato and sour cream were sparse. I didn't leave hungry, but I could have eaten more. I guess I just prefer chunks of chicken breast as opposed to shredded chicken. The burrito was also rolled to where one side was all chicken and the other side was all lettuce. I can't stand that. It's a pet peeve of mine.

Seems like you would have left full had you gotten a burrito as it comes. Those guys aren't going to throw in a massive amount of chicken and a cup of sour cream just because you 86 the beans and rice.

Given the choice, I much prefer fresh jalepenos to pickled. Izzo's gives you that choice.

Maybe I was disappointed because so many people here built it up for me and I was holding it to a high standard. I'm willing to try it again, but it's not really in a convenient place for me, so I doubt I'll make a special trip over there.

I order my burrito the same way at Izzo's (no rice or beans) and I can't say I've ever left hungry. But I'm also able to tell them to put some more pico or cheese or sour cream while they make it, so that could be a reason.

I will say this, though. I've known Ozzie since he opened Izzo's 7 years ago. He has always been very responsive to me, and he values my opinions. If I ever have a problem, I can call or e-mail him and he's quick to respond to make things right. I've had discussions with him about various aspects of their menu items and he's explained his philosophy to me. He will not compromise freshness for speed. That's one of the reasons he hasn't added shrimp to the menu full time (only during Lent). He's told me he can't find a way to keep shrimp from getting rubbery from sitting around and he won't serve it that way. He also asked me to try a couple of their new tortillas when they were forced to change suppliers.

So, yes, I'm biased towards Izzo's, because of that. And that probably clouds my judgement of other places. So, take my review with a grain of salt. But, I stand by what I said in the review. I'm not a huge fan of shreadded chicken (personal preference) and I like the contents to be mixed up prior to rolling the burrito so that you don't get a big bite of lettuce with no chicken on one half and vice versa for the other half.

Again, I'll probably try T&BE again. The salsa was delicious and the price is definitely right. It's just not located in a convenient place for me. I'd like to try their steak and pork items. Maybe I'll be more impressed.
