I am making some chili and I added half of an IPA and some coffee. It is now a bit too bitter. Any way to curb that?

Sugar, salt, dairy, and/or acid. But I would start with sugar. As you mention in post, it has coffee in it. How do people tone down bitterness in coffee? With sugar or dairy.

I'd start with a little honey or agave. If you want to try an acid, maybe a little lime juice or vinegar.

If you garnish your chili with sour cream per bowl, that may take care of it.

Chocolate can add some bitter flavor, but Otis's Hershey bar suggestion might take care of it with the addition of the sugar from the bar.

I'd start with sugar but why the coffee? That flavor seems to be a little odd for what usually goes in a chili. Just curious.

plenty of people put stouts and/or chocolate in chili to get some roastiness...but straight coffee? Yeah I've never heard of that

did you put grinds or brewed coffee in your chili?

Cold brewing drastically reduces bitterness in coffee making it much better to cook with than traditionally brewed coffee.

It's just a weird thing to roll with when you have pot full of chili ingredients.

Since sugar, dairy and chocolate have been mentioned how about a scoop of chocolate ice cream?

The coffee isn't that weird I have seen several recipes that include it online.I have spent many hours looking up chili recipes though

Closest I have come to putting coffee in chili was using a Santa Fe Java Stout.

the IPA is an awful idea and you should ashamed. You need a good chocolate stout

It's all good. I Have made some awful chills before.

I have one in my freezer that is entirely too spicy and I don't know what to do with it

no such thing for me. I have to temper it though since others have to have some too.

I chalk this up to experience and a public service. I know there are lurkers out there thinking "note to self-don't use and IPA in chili."

Whenever "Mama" scorched the red gravy, she would add basil and sugar. That bitter burnt flavor went away. She might have added butter too, but I can confirm that. Accessing memory banks...nope nothing...sorry.

Also learned to add liquid smoke to scorched soup... and add the word "Smoked" in front of the name of the soup.

I'm going to get destroyed but try adding some ketchup. It works.
