Is that a movie or book that I should have seen or heard about it?

not sure of the age, but before focusing on fine dining which is greatly overrated i would focus on food concepts.

ex:

don't assume they want the stupid kiddy menu at any place. Give them the regular menu.

cook at home, let them watch, stir, mix, etc.....and encourage them to taste anything.

basically, don't bend over backwards making sure their food is childish, but largely feed them what you eat.

You prob do this already, i would assume. But for anyone it seems that until these concepts are practiced that fine dining is a waste anyway...and even after that it can still be a waste at at times.

We never really ate at too many fine dining places when I was growing up. That just wasn't our style. We preferred to go to the local, hole in the wall joints with great food, cold beer, relaxed atmosphere (pref. sitting outside and what not). Hell, I think I have been to more fine dining restaurants than my parents combined.

the start of high school is a good age

most kids any younger would not appreciate it.

it doesnt mean when they get older that they wont, though

you do it in the home, if its well received, they are ready.

i totally agree with this. i think the main reason i have always loved trying new foods is because i was exposed to a variety at home.

It is acceptable to introduce children to fine dining as soon as they are disciplined enough to display the proper manners for the circumstances. In the 1960's, when I was a child, it was not unusual to see small children in fancy restaurants as many children were taught proper table manners. I know that I was taken to fine dining establishments when I was 5 years old.

Thoughts/suggestions/personal philosophy.
What's the best age to start bringing kids to the better, more upscale spots?
What do Restauranteurs think is the right age ?

The age when they have learned to sit down and shut up for the hour and a half or so you are there. If your kid runs around screaming and making a commotion to where it disrupts the other diners, leave him/her at home.

That's why you have chuckecheese and other "loud" places. Let those of us who go to the upscale places to get away from that crap enjoy our night.

eta-not directly about you or your kid, just making a generalisation.
