It depends on the place. I know Triton in New Orleans won't give you prices but I think most of the others will. I was very pleased with Stone Gallery. Also there seems to be a big difference in pricing for fabrication and installation. One guy quoted me double the price than the person I ended up using.

Venetian gold.
Thick cut.
I forgot the name of how it was edged.

Very happy with.

Very pretty, beer and all. Wow, just realized if I checked the FBD thread I'd probably get to see lots of granite!

Lots of color and movement in that stone. Someone earlier in the thread said theirs was Titanium, and that stone is also quite vivid. I'm torn between subtle and dramatic.

We just built a house and picking out granite was kinda tedious. Naturally we went over our budget because once you start looking at some of the stuff and love a slab it's hard to go backwards. We didn't get into the stupid high exotics and we were able to use remnants in a lot of the bathrooms so that was nice.

I'll have to get the names when I get to work.

We used 3 of these for our kitchen, island, and butlers pantry (bar).

In our pantry we just put absolute black.

Two of these went to our master bathroom counters, closet island, and shower seat. Not around the tub...it was almost 2500 for a peice big enough with 90% cut out for the tub.

Two of these for the laundry room counter and island.

These are the remnants we used for some of the bathrooms

Outdoor kitchen I remember is called niagara leathered....looks awesome but black and leathered outside is proving to be dirty all the time we have a chipped edge on this one.

Can see the texture in this one

Color And a peak at the edge in this one.

Wow, that is a lot of granite! I can't even imagine all the decisions and choices in building from scratch.

This remodel will include our current kitchen and the den, and the laundry room and powder room. One wall of counters is 18' long with cutouts for double sink and cooktop and an 8 foot peninsula. The island will not have a granite top. There is a five foot counter in the laundry room and a tiny sink surround in the powder room.

We thought we'd be starting right after the new year, but until we get this granite/quartzite/whatever decision made, it's holding up other choices.

We aren't re-doing our two full baths at this time. If we survive stage 1 of this remodel (with sanity and any money left), there may be a stage 2 that would include the two bathrooms.

Yea its a lot to decide on...pretty much anything and everything in your house as far as placement and operation can have a decision

Good luck with your renovation

List of names

Kitchen is Sienna Beige
Master bath/closet is Delicatus
Laundry is Hawaii
outside is Niagara brushed leather.

The remnants I do not have the names for...thought i did.

Good luck!

Thanks for that!

My husband loved a Sienna Beige at one of the stone yards. But the ones from the lot he liked were on hold for someone, and ones from a different lot weren't as pretty. That's why we feel we HAVE to see the exact slabs we'll be getting.

Had to go back and search for this post. Been meaning to reply. We are putting granite in our kitchen now. We went with Venetian gold. We have dark cherry cabinets. We then found this place in Lafayette that takes old brick from buildings in New York and Chicago. They cut it into tile. We are doing that for our backsplash. We are not getting the lip( backsplash) of granite. We are going with the brick all the way down. I wish I new how to post pics, we put the deposit down for our granite yesterday. Our cabinets are dark so we didn't want to go with a dark granite. The Venetian has some rust colors to match the brick. We are hoping to get that old exposed wall look u see in buildings in New York. After the granite we are replacing our appliances with stainless.

Thanks, MrsWiggles!

The brick backsplash sounds great! I hope you learn how to post pictures so we can see how it turns out.

If you get a photobucket or imgur account and upload pictures there, then just paste the link into the "img" thingy on the side of the posting window, you can do it.

We went back to Baton Rouge yesterday because the stone yard had received more white piracema. We'd loved this one, but it was sold:

Unfortunately, the slabs they pulled out to show us didn't appeal to us as much. The first one had a section that looked like a big hurricane symbol on it. The lady who was showing us the slabs seemed a little taken aback when I reacted to the second slab with, "Whoa, that's a giant penis!" Third slab had a smaller penis on it. :(

Anyway, we kept being drawn to some quartzite called Brown Fantasy. I could not get good pics of it, though. I couldn't get a good distance away from it because slabs were too close together. Here is a picture of a kitchen with brown fantasy counter tops.

I'll try posting some pics once we get the backsplash up.... This process is exciting but to be honest I'm ready to be done with it.... It's been a long process... We got the cabinets done. Now the countertops.... We ripped out the floor in the kitchen... So we still have that to do.. Then replace our appliances.....

I like the brown fantasy, it appears more "griege" (grey/beige) than brown. I'm not a fan of brown granite....it seems to be the default choice all over the south. Been on lots of open houses and seen plenty RE listing pics, and brown-toned granite is every-freaking-where. I think if you go lighter, you won't regret it. Lighter countertop tones make a kitchen seem airier. My rule of thumb: darkest tones on floor, lighter tones as you move upward toward ceiling. This makes a room feel both grounded and taller.

Here's a pic of my honed statuary marble, edge is eased (which is just a straight cut with hand-rounded top and bottom edges to take the sharpness off). Floor is darker than wall color, cabinets are natural cherry (not the fake dark stained stuff). Hardware is stainless steel by Sugastune, a Japanese firm known for lab and industrial fixtures. Appliances are stainless, backsplash is matte subway. It's modernist, but the natural cherry and figured marble keep it from being cold and give it some classic appeal. I wanted it to look great in 20+ years.
And that is indeed a real breadbox in the pic.

Hungryone, I'm not seeing a pic. :(

My husband commented yesterday about the naming of stones ... why is there no white in white piracema? Hardly any brown in brown fantasy? And so forth.

There are several things we like about the brown fantasy. It shows movement without being overly dramatic. There are a number of colors that could be pulled out of it, greys, beiges, taupes, and even blue.

My husband agrees with you about a dark floor in this kitchen. My only issue is that the living room and dining room have medium color oak floors and even though the rooms are connected by doorways and not fully open, I worry about the contrast will not go well together.

I'm trying to choose granite ... do you know what yours is?Dunno why the stone yards aren't quoting you prices on the slabs....I did not experience this in the NOLA area.

I got my last slabs of Taj Mahal Quartzite from Triton and they don't quote prices. I had to wait for the fabricator to quote it. Its a way some of them protect the fabricators costs. Personally I think its bullshite but the wife was in love with the stone so I didn't have a choice.

Next time I build I will use stone gallery. They quote the actual stone price and have a much bigger selection now that they did a few years ago.
