A lot. Some of that is just not adding this or that or adding something. But portion size for certain things is just very difficult to deal with.

If I 'm going to Twin Peaks, I'd assume it'd be to drink a lot of beer. May as well get the best $/ounce I can

Plus what kind of pussy is going to order a girl size?

People who haven't worked in restaurants often don't consider these things. I had plenty of customers ask for gumbo without okra.. or for red beans and rice without sausage.. or a twice baked potato without the chives cooked into it. It is like they never took into account that gumbo takes hours to cook.. potatoes take a long time to twice bake.. etc. You can't get it without an ingredient. These items are not made to order. That would be impossible. Sometimes these people were being difficult assholes; other times it just never occurred to them that these items are lengthy cooking-time items.

Hell, the red beans lady literally asked me to go back there with a spoon and pick out every sausage in her plate.

There is customer service, and then there is just caving to people trying to abuse the system.

Every time we've been when Jones is driving, he'll say before they even ask, "Yes, I'll take the pussy size".

The "bar" I work at offers half pints and tasters. It does cost more per ounce than a full pint, but that makes sense.

I've never worked in the food service industry, but I've been in a service oriented job pretty much my entire career. My response would probably have not been pleasant for her.

If I was ever in that place I'd definitely man up and order the girl size. Screw 'em.

Since this request is nothing new, I'm willing to bet most POS systems have an "Easy Button" for such requests.

I've never been asked for such a thing . If you don't want a large entree, order an app. Or split with someone.

I do it all the time because I'm a toddler eater. Apps are better than entrees 9/10 places anyway.

Serve them half on their plate and give them the other half in a to-go box before they pay their bill.

Seems pretty simple.

There are more demanding customers in this world than Dempsey's customers.

Sure, but I just don't think that asking for half portions is as common as you insinuate in your standard casual joints. I know that one person's experience doesn't mean it doesn't happen at all, but I've never seen someone ask for such a thing.

In more upscale restaurants with flexible menus? Sure, I can imagine it happens some. But enough for "most" restaurants to have a button for it? I doubt it.
