I am looking for low key but good bar and food. Any thoughts on West End? Other recommendations? Walkable from the Embassy is even better.

Good draft beer options at the Whole Food bar.
Good food at Papa's or Capital Grille that you can walk to.

Look like good options although I am dressed a bit more casual. Not t-shirt casual, but trendy casual would be more accurate.
ETA: for example I normally stay near rice village and like ginger man for drinks and that sports bar across the street for watching a game with some grub. I had been looking at West End public house but that is a blind guess.

There is a Champs sports bar across from tasting room.

Go to Etoile, it is in the Uptown Park Plaza a mile or two from you. Go sit at the bar and eat. The bartender Kim is one of the best I've ever had. She makes a mean Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Martini, and a Sazerac comparable or better than the New Orleans original. The food is strictly French and damn solid but Kim is the reason my wife and I go twice a month or so.

bubba's burger shack under the highway
and there's a decent vietnamese place near there on Westheimer but I forget the name
Richmond Arms is a good British pub in the area too.. but the food is also British (read: subpar)

Not a whole lot I would recommend around there, Kenny and Ziggy's Deli, Caracol, or the new Whole Foods on Post Oak...but none of those fit what you're looking for.
Closest would be Liberty Kitchen on San Felipe. Sit at the bar.

If you have a car I would drive out to Chinatown and go to one of the spots out there.

Burger Palace is quite good. I've eaten there multiple times and haven't been disappointed.

Arcodoro... you're welcome.
It's Sardinian, so that makes it pretty damn unique. Similar to Sicilian/Italian and its very good.
I second Kenny & Ziggy's. Its the real deal, NY jewish deli. There's a very good documentary on Netflix about saving the jewish deli, and this dude is at the forefront. He grew up in a traditional jewish deli in NYC.
