I hear of alot of people doing their corn this way...and I get it...you don't want to "over cook" the corn. I've ate it at boils like this many times and its alright but it doesn't have near the seasoning I like in my corn.
Boiled corn on the cob is delicious with just butter on it. The boil seasoning is OK, but corn is great without it. Fresh corn on the cob can be eaten raw and it's great. What I hate is blown out kernels on the cob. You just wasted the sweetness of the corn, because now it's in the water, not in the corn.
Just use fresh, or better, frozen corn (along with ice), to help lower the boil temp and allow longer soak time.

I use "B" size potatos and cut them in halve.
