Me and a couple buddies are heading to the Houston classic baseball tourney to see the Tigers next Friday. I'd like to check out a tap room/brewery or grab a beer that maybe I can't get in BR...if there are any. I know Houston is pretty close so I'm not aware of anything there that we don't have available here. Any recommendations?

Check out Moon Tower Inn, not far from the stadium. Usually has a good amount of different beers. Make sure you try some Brash brews.

Are you staying downtown and do you want to walk or drive?

If you're downtown, you can walk to 8th Wonder. The beers are good, but not mindblowing. It's a great time, though.

Flying Saucer downtown is a good spot with a big taplist. They have a lot of local bers and even have local flights for you to try.

Conservatory has a bunch of taps with local beers. The food is better than Flying Saucer.

You can uber to Saint Arnold just north of downtown. You can get it in LA, but it's still a decnt place to visit if you're downtown.

If you want to drive, go to Brash.

Staying downtown. Mostly walking if possible. Can you walk to St. Arnold?

If you're only walking, Axelrad and Flying Saucer to get good draft beers, including local, that you can't get in Louisiana.

If you don't mind driving for the best brews Houston has to offer, Brash in the "North Heights" area and Whole Foods Post Oak Brewery in the Galleria.

B52 and Copperhead in Conroe is you want a further drive.

I wouldn't walk to St. Arnold, but technically you can. If your hotel has a shuttle, they may take you. If not, it's probably a $4-5 uber ride.

Glad you started this thread so I didn't have to

Definitely hitting 8th wonder and St. Arnold. Flying Saucer is always a go to when I'm in town.

Really depends on where you are staying

Flying saucer downtown has a great selection, 8th wonder is right there, st Arnold's isn't far (st Arnold beer> 8th wonder, imo)

Other bars worth mentioning if you aren't checking out the other games.

Kirby ice house: great porch, tons of taps and near a El teimpo

Axelrad: great taplist and great outdoor area.

B-52, brash, live oak hefe, spindletop ipa are some the beers you should be looking at for

Pretty sure I am staying fairly close to Flying Saucer so will hit that up at some point. Should make my way to 8th wonder as well as a few other spots in the area.

I'm staying at the Holiday Inn downtown which is apparently about a half mile walk to flying saucer. Fantastic.

I went to Kirby ice house during super bowl weekend and there was a taco truck outside and it was pretty damn good.

Hay Merchant. You can sample a bunch of different good Houston-area beers and don't have to be stuck at a single brewery that you might not like.

Finally got to go there the other day. It was dead, but I did not care. food and selection of beer are both legit. Funny that even The Montrose "gentrified". It is not quite as gay? Still has gay bars but not nearly as many it seems. I mention that OP as Hay Merchant is in the heart of Montrose. Don't let any rednecks scare you.

I ALWAYS mention Springbok. It is a South African Sports Bar and is right next to Flying Saucer. They pay attention to cocktails there as well but they had a nice beer selection. Probably 1/3 of what Saucer has, but that is probably 30-40+ beers. SpringBok food is great too. Usual sports bar suspect food but some have a South African twist.

Karbach Brewery? Or is it down 290? I can't remember. I just know I hear good things and the pics I have seen of it are very nice. Karbach is like Saint Arnold. Everything they do, they do pretty well. Not Belgian Monk well, but well.
