Have you ever had straight up bad food from a caterer?

Small wedding last weekend, and we ordered a few things from a local caterer. Some things were not like the description we saw on their website, and others were just plain bad. This is a highly recommended place too, so it was shocking. Everyone I've talked to that has ordered from them has given high praise.
There was a choice of mini yeast rolls with either smoked turkey or roast beef. We went with Roast Beef. No mention of goat cheese and onions in them, which I thought was odd because all of the other descriptions spelled out every ingredient. Not that it was bad, but when you're expecting a small roast beef sandwich and bite into a massive hunk of goat cheese and browned onions it just wasn't what we expected. There were kids there and that was one of the items we ordered that they would eat.
There was also an artichoke dip that looked like someone tossed a few artichokes into a blender or food processor and walked away. It was almost soupy. And it had an odd fishy flavor.
The Penne Pasta salad was decent. Too many extras thrown in like olives and sun dried tomatoes. And barely any sauce. Noodles were almost dry.
The only good thing was the baked brie, but for some reason the rest of the crowd wasn't a fan. Fine with me since I brought it home and ate the rest over the next couple of days.

Had a "brisket" one time from a local caterer at a wedding party, it was completely inedible, the people couldn't even cut it, was just like a brick.
The rest of the food they provided was basically just fruit and cold cuts arranged on trays

The jambalaya LSU serves at like every function. It's awful. Parboiled rice, tasteless chicken, bad sausage, just straight up awful and an insult to real Cajun Jambalaya. The worst part about it is that they serve it at all of their recruiting functions for potential out of state students!

I've had bad catered food, but not from a caterer I hired that I can recall, unless it was one dish out of many that I didn't particularly care for. I'm pretty careful about asking for a detailed description of each dish if I'm not familiar with it. I haven't used a new caterer in a long time, though, so normally, I'm familiar with the food from having it at someone else's function or one I've been in charge of.
I did have a "muffalatta" from a local caterer over the weekend and it was nothing more than a roll with ham, salami, cheese and a sprinkling of olive salad, literally. Glad I didn't pay for those.

Yes. We had an awful experience at our wedding with a local caterer and I will just leave it at that. Very disappointing and my in-laws still get sick to their stomach when they think about it nearly five years later...

You can't say something was the worst thing ever and then not tell us the damn story. It's not like you have PTSD from your wedding caterer. Let's hear it.

From your description, did you go with something fancier than you are used to?

Went to a rehearsal dinner at Del LaRonde Hall where Ruffinos has their offices now many years ago. Friend of ours was leasing it and the caterer. It was the worst meal I've had at any function like that. It was right when all of us were starting to get married and he hounded everyone to have their rehearsals and receptions there. Ma'am it was bad.
He didn't last long.

Isn't that kinda what a muff is?

No it was all supposedly basic stuff. It was only a dozen of us and two of those my kids so that's why we chose the sandwiches. My brother in law is a picky eater as well. I loved the sandwiches but didn't like scraping all the extras off so my kids would eat. And the artichoke dip, no one liked.

I suppose you could call it that, but it's a bad one at the very least. I don't think there's enough olive salad to call it that, personally.
The photo below shows the olive salad on the top bun and the bottom bun. Well, there's not really olive salad, just some pieces of things. The rolls were just dinner rolls of some sort.

I might actually like that. I hate the olive salad part of the muff.
Which kind of proves it isn't a muff.

The caterer didn't give you a tasting before hand?

It was pretty dry, too, because of the lack of olive salad.
