I have seen This taco recipe howto video everywhere on facebook. Has anyone tried this? It looks amazing. I would try it with a boston butt or sometthing not quite as fatty as that shoulder. Unless someone says that it tastes like garbage, i think i will try it monday.

Wow. The boston butts ive smoked in the past were not 1/2 fat like that. I acknowledge my ignorance /bow
Thankyou for educating me.

I tried to use this loophole last night when I asked for shoulder sex.

Looks Ok. Do it and take photos, then post and let us know how it was.
I'd use metal skewers if you have them.

Just laughed my arse off. Or was it my shoulder?

You may have purchased a trimmed shoulder before. The pork in that video had its thick fat layer that you could trim. If I was replicating the recipe myself I'd probably trim the fat myself. I also doubt I'd bother with the skewer if it's going in the oven. It might be easier to put it in a pan and layer pineapple slides on top.

I am in the process of making this. It smells great but ive already got some corrections for if I ever do this again.

Al Pastor might be my favorite Mexican dish.

The video says to marinate it for 2 hours. It needs to marinate much longer than that. The paste stuff was a booger to find and it takes forever to break down in the marinade. The tower idea is nice but mine have fallen over twice. I ended up with two small towers with two spits in each and they still both fell over in the oven. The smell is amazing though so i am still hopeful.

Yeah. This was cool to look at but 10 minutes into the bake, it fell over in the oven. So i made two smaller towers.
Yeah. They both fell over too. Even with two spits. Not fun to look at but smells great and Ill do a couple things different next time for presentation.
Instead of being able to shave them off the spit, i just pulled a few pieces and chopped it. Pretty straight forward. You like my wusthoff board and not wusthoff knife? The knife was being used to chop pineapple a couple feet away ;)
Plated. Not fancy. Just a quick and dirty trial run. Ill do a few things different next time but the flavor was pretty good. Definately learned a few things while cooking this so I call it a success. 7/10. Will cook again and do better.

Nice job.. Did you use all those different dry spices or a something already mixed?
Posted on 10/17/16 at 7:42 pm to t00f
I used the spices is the video, exactly as prepped in the video. My marinade did not come out looking as silky as theirs did and Im not sure why.
Thanks for looking!
