I've never owned one. Wife has been bugging me for ideas on what to get me for Father's Day. There isn't anything I truly need or want, but I've been thinking of getting a growler, so I was going to tell her that was an idea.

Looking around, seems like standard is 64 oz but they come in all sorts of styles, colors, types of material, etc.

So, educate me on these. What are some examples of good ones? I want something that will last a bit, but I don't wnat my wife to spend a ton of money on it either. I would probably get them filled up at most once a week. I rarely sit down and drink 64 oz of beer at once, so I'm looking for something that will keep the beer maybe 48-72 hours from filling. I guess the more you open it, the less it keeps?

Also, do they have to stay in a refrigerator, or will they keep in an ice chest? For example, could I fill one and throw it in the ice chest and bring to the beach?

Thanks!

Once you open a growler, you really need to plan to drink all of it, as you start to lose carbonation rapidly.

I have a glass one and an awesome stanley one that keeps the beer cold for hours, even if not on ice.

You can get this one, with the 4 stanley insulated pint glasses or get the growler by itself. I have the green growler and a 16 oz. stanley insulated cup with bottle opener.

Are you just being a troll or is there a reason this makes me a nerd... or a double nerd because I don't want to drink 64 oz of beer at once?

Is stainless steel better/worse than glass?

I'd like a non-glass one as I do a lot of drinking by the pool and we can't have glass by the pool.

Also, I have a YETI tumbler, is that a good option for drinking the beer out of?

Relax, we like to joke with each other on this board. Roll with the punches.

Doesn't matter. I wanted a this one because it was insulated. It's akin to a yeti growler, if they made one, without the absurd markup.

Drink out of whatever you want. A yeti tumbler will def. keep it colder for longer as opposed to a standard glass or plastic pint glass.

You don't drink 4 pints of beer in one evening while grilling, afternoon by the pool, or day around the house doing yard work?

Cool. wasn't sure if the makeup of the tumbler (the stainless steel) would cause any taste effect on the beer.

It shouldnt. I mean most breweries ferment in stainless fermenters.

Best option out there IMO. I have a Miir brand one that I bought from Comrade Brewing. It's legit. Flip top growler.
Have had good luck with a double walled vaccum sealed stainless screw top from FiftyFifty too (I think that is the brand. Was bought on Amazon)

Most breweries sell glass growlers for like $10 or less. Idk how nice you are looking to go, but those are cheap and they do the job most people use it for. Just fill it every now and then, keep it in the fridge or on ice, then drink the whole thing in one day once you open it.

I saw these advertised last week for Father's Day and are supposed to keep your beer fresh for weeks since it uses CO2 canisters. If you look on Amazon though, the quality control seems hit or miss, so I'd buy somewhere that you know you can get a return if you need one. That being said, it looks like this would be a good option if you plan on filling the thing often.

Personally, I'd go with a 32oz stainless growler. I have both 64oz and 32oz growlers, and I get far more use from the smaller one. I'm rarely in a situation when I want to drink 64oz of beer in general, particularly the same one.

Go with a flip top one, not a screw top one.
