Well there's parboiled rice and then there's parboiled rice. I don't mind the brands that have a subtle flavor. But there are some brands that have a disgusting taste. The example I can think of at the moment is "Cook me something mister" brand jambalaya from Sam's. I didn't buy it but I taste tested it. It was awful.

Isn't jambalaya browned via the meat more than onion? You brown the meat then the water in the onion is used to help scrape up the bits from the pot that is brown. How would onions alone brown the dish?
