What's the deal with the yelp responses?

Owner appears to be a total douche. He tried to get the place hyped by claiming it was haunted and has a little set up for some female "ghost" that lives there.
I know several people that work there and I have been a few times. Bottom line is the food is mediocre. The place will be closed within 6 months imo.

I dunno, isn't the story that there's deep pockets behind it? It's been open a year and done pretty underwhelming business, I could see it lasting a bit longer.

Good news is the building is pretty nice for when they finally do give up and someone else steps in with a better product. Probably a 5 Guys or something since apparently chains are taking over Mag

I have never been to this place, but have driven by many times...after reading those yelp responses from the owner, wow!. Seriously, when cooking meat, you can cook it a number of different ways, including over "Charcoal". How misleading is it to open a hamburger restaurant named "Charcoal's" and then not cook over charcoal...only to encourage people to "ask about the concept" and be told its named after a grand hunting dog. Sounds like these owners and this place can't get out of its own way.

One of my favorite things about their website is they have a page dedicated to "testimonials."

LINK

Many I'm way off here, but how many restaurants have a page dedicated to customer reviews? And how can you possibly verify their authenticity? The whole thing seems really insecure

That being said, this was one of the testimonials:

quote:

There were lots of interesting and yummy burgers here. Pretty much any kind of burger you could think of, they had. That being said, it was a bit pricey; and being one of about four burger places all on Magazine...

Guess the testimonials are legit...

It is sort of funny that they stole the lone schtick of Todd Graves that nobody could accuse Graves of stealing from someone else. And, at least to Graves' credit, his dog wasn't named BigChickenFingers or FreshHandcutFries.

Oh man, Fat Cow is not good. Those patties..

I didn't order a burer but had a bite of my gf's antelope. Very chewy. Was even difficult to cut with knife.

Another issue I had was the sub fries $1.50 and add grilled onions $1.50. Other burgers came with grilled onions so why should they charge for that? They don't list the free add ons and the up charge add ons like other burger places.

Wait, which place are you referring to? Fat Cow or Charcoals?

Still scratching my head over naming a burger restaurant Charcoal and then being amazed that patrons are confused that you don't cook over Charcoal. I get that he's your beloved puppy dog, but damn.

I get what you are saying but:

Is La Petite Grocery a grocery store?
Cane's has already been mentioned.

There is history there, but I do get what you are saying. I don't get hung up on the names of places. The name Samich doesn't keep me from eating there.

I was traveling through Napa Valley and had run out of clean clothes. Walked into this one joint with a full hamper thinking they could help me out and got a bunch of funny looks. Devious frickers.

Referencing a specific method of cooking the product you serve in your name and using a different method instead, is still sort of silly though.

Burgers grilled with charcoal, that's the impression I got too. So it's named after a dog? That's a great gourmet image.

i dont really care about names either, but i can see why people have beef here.

It happens to be a strange coincidence, but still id expect them to use charcoal if i didnt know the story.
