If you can get over to Athens-only about an hour from your hotel, Terrapin is good as well.

For some reason I thought that Terrapin doesnt do on-site sales, just tours with a tasting...?

I'm having a morning beer now at the Ye Olde College Inn on concourse D waiting on my flight and got me thinking…..is ATL not big in the way of brew pubs or breweries worthing checking out/touring?

I think sweet water or Monday night brewing offer the best brewery experiences. Orpheus and three taverns and red brick are also good. Wrecking bar in little 5 is an awesome brewpub, I would highly recommend hitting fox brothers for food and then transitioning to wrecking bar or the porter for great beer! The original vortex is also right next to these spots.

Decatur on its own has a good collection of breweries and beer spots (brick store).

True. Sweetwater too. As well as every brewery in the state.

Can't sell beer at any brewery. Just beer tours where you pay $10 and get about 6 or so beers. People usually give you extra tix tho, I've never had a problem stretching my $10 into a ton of beer

Interesting, I was debating making the trip when I visited ATL back in July but couldnt bring myself to drive 2 hours to get a few 4oz pours.

They can't advertise it on websites but it is extremely easy to get more drink tickets / they are very lax. I would suggest going to an anniversary party tho or something like that with special casks and beers.
Tours today:

Tried Varsity, not impressed but I can see the novelty of the place. Pounding beers at Vortex now. Weak on taps but great bottle selection. Also, I asked about the Spanish fly burger...its no longer on the menu.

Haha, trying to make the most of this place! I've been checking off a lot you guys listed so far.

Mallardhank, had dinner at Boudreaux's Acadiana tonight. It was 10 minutes from where I'm staying. Shrimp creole was ok. Did talk to Paul for a minute about spicing it up but he said the ATL palate doesn't take it well so he leaves the hot sauce on the table instead.

It was pretty cool to see the LA flag hanging over the kitchen in addition to all the Saints and LA colleges shite all over the place.

Happy to see you tried Paul's place and met and spoke with him. We've always had good experiences there. Any food in Atl is going to be milder than you get in La. Just didn't want you to have a bad experience.
Hope you're enjoying the trip.

Vortex? Varsity? Taco Mac?

Cmon ... that's like telling somebody visiting NOLA to go to Mother's, ACME and Drago's. All decent places, but lacking much thought.

I live in NOLA and have been in ATL most of the last two years working and there are tons of great options.

Breakfast .... General Muir is my favorite, Homegrown, Ria's (does not suck btw), Octane or Dancing Goats for Coffee, The Majestic for late night classic diner food

beer/drinks --- check out the Wrecking Pub, Porter, Manuel's, Cypress Pint and Plate, Kimball House, Paper Plane, the brick store pub

elevated dining - the optimist, barcelona, holeman and finch, JCT kitchen

good grub - Antico (one of the best pizzas in america), Highland Tap (steaks in a divey atmosphere, the Earl for music and burgers
