I am from out of town and was in Baton Rouge on business. I've wanted to stop in and look over the Fresh Market since it has been there and finally had a chance yesterday. Very well laid out and visually appealing store. The selection of items they stock in the fresh sections was great. I ended up taking home some items from the olive bar and some fresh ground peanut butter from a station they have set up in the store. I found their prices a bit higher than you will pay at a chain supermarket, but for the quality you get, not by an exorbitant amount. Their meat, produce, bakery items, beer, and wine selections were outstanding. I don't think this is the kind of store you want to get all your household items from, but for getting some really nice specialty items, I think they will be every bit as good as Whole Foods and maybe a little less expensive.

I like the store, when I worked in the area the deli stuff for lunch was very good. If you want a panini they will make a fresh hot on for you, at $6 it is easily enough for 2, a great cheap lunch.

The meat section is nice, I frequently get the double thick bone-in pork chops, for some reason not a lot of supermarkets have them.

Beer selection is not that great. Bakery is not near as good as Whole Foods. I do like their prepared side dishes and rottisserie chicken.
