Haven't been to either in a long time so was wondering if one happened to be markedly better than the other these days

The later you go, the darker Chimes East gets. I like both places though. Chimes has the better beer selection, so for me, that would win out. Your mileage may vary.

i stumbled upon boil and roux sunday for lunch... yea i didnt realize what kind of establishment it was. With racial tension so high these days, i felt super uncomfortable. I tried to not feel that way but couldnt help it

I'd pick Chimes East, but it's mainly because of the beer selection.

It's a restaurant that attracts middle class black people that's right by a super busy, well-lit intersection. And it's surrounded by a host of businesses, including a large jewelry store. You really must be a very special and unique snowflake to feel "super uncomfortable" with those surroundings. I hope you were able to quickly retreat to your safe space.

I gave B&R several chances because the 1st meal there w2as good, but it just got worse. The last time the glazed-eye waitress had to come beck and ask us what we ordered, twice. The race thing doesn't bother me a bit, but horrible service and having to keep ordering something else because "we out of that", just made it to much bother. Plenty of better places in the area.

Oh yeah, I wasn't to keen on the guy who came to our table and wanted to sell me a watch. Seriously?

BTW, Chimes East by a mile.

Willie's is more casual and fun but bar isn't as great. Chimes is more dimly lit, loud, but has better bar.

I like Willie's

I thought there was an unwritten law around here that those guys are only allowed to approach you while you are pumping gas at a gas station. At least he was not trying to pressure you into buying his mixtape.
