Foosackly’s is better than Canes

More chicken fingers in their boxes (5 vs 4 and 7 vs 6 in the combos), multiple sauce choices, better toast and lower prices.
And the guy who started it is also an LSU grad..

Mobile to Pensacola
The guy was at LSU with plans to open up a place in BR, but Graves beat him to the punch by less than a year so he went to Mobile.
3 5 finger combos with drink was $21 this past weekend when I stopped in Daphne on the way back from the beach.
Canes would have cost $25 with less chicken.

They are better because they are cheaper and have more sauce options? Ok. Well, how’s the chicken?
Their prices may be lower due to frozen chicken. Canes uses fresh, never frozen chicken.

There are several on my way back. I doubt they'll be open, leaving early Saturday.
Cane's chicken is nothing special. It's all in the sauce.

We usually get some on the way to or back from the beach.

Cane’s does have quality chicken. Whole muscle, fresh chicken tenders is something special. Not saying this makes it better, but it is much better quality than probably all fast food chicken fingers, which makes it special.

Probably a tall tale that Graves beat him to the idea. Math doesn’t really add up.

The guy (or his wife) is from Mobile, went to LSU, and liked the original Canes (Highland Rd.) concept and replicated it down the street from South Alabama.

1000% agree. Although the chicken is smaller, they give you more pieces. I prefer the smaller tenders because they are perfectly crispy.

It is couple miles down the street from South Alabama. I don't know if they were going for the college crowd like the one at LSU, because if they were they could have easily put it much closer. There are quite a few places it could have gone within walking distance of south.

The original is/was at University and Airport, right? In the same outparcel at the Smoothie King...which makes sense given the family's interests in that franchise.
In 2000, South was almost entirely a commuter campus. Still is, but not to the same extent as 20 years ago. Wasn't trying to imply Foo's distance to USA was similar to Canes to LSU.

I've eaten at the Foosacklys in Auburn a couple of times. Tastes like any other generic fried chicken and fries restaurant to me. The choice of sauces are nice but not really earth shattering to significantly elevate it over the competition. My preference is to eat the fried chicken with hot sauce (which I have a half a dozen good options at home) and dip the fries in whatever sauce I get. Guthries, Foosacklys, Canes, Tenda Chick, etc. Pretty much all interchangeable to me.
